Why is this an issue NOW? When Bush's ass is on the line? People need to stop and think. The media needs to be asking this question.

2. Color me stupid but what does it mean if Kathleen Blanco allows
this to be "Federalized". Does that mean they lose control of the contracting, the money/funds, the priorities, the final product of what will be done with NO? Just what is the real danger of federalizing it?? I really am dumb about most all of this.

5. I've heard JFK nationalized for some disaster. '68 convention...
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 09:55 AM by Kagemusha
And since then the laws have been pretty explicit... you nationalize when it is a national emergency. I've said before, this WAS a national emergency by any sane standard (New Orleans is a massively important strategic port, in no small part re: oil supplies as we are seeing on the East Coast). Apparently Bush just didn't feel that way.

Edit: And by the way nationalization would've only done some good early last week. Asking for it Friday/Sat is transparent and insultingly political.

7. During the L.A. Riots, as a member of the Guard, I was considered
federal active duty. I don't know who as actually in charge, but my pay for that period was listed as federal, not state.
