1. Confirmation that Snowball has been found!
From United Animal Nations:
http://uan.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/254103991/m/842103337

Posted September 05, 2005 11:27 AM "We have confirmation from the State Veterinarian's office in Louisiana that Snowball, the little white terrier mix who was shown on many news broadcasts as he was not allowed to board the evacuee bus with his owner, is safe. He was immediately rescued and is in the hands of caring professionals. That's all the information we know, but we thought that the many people who were concerned about him would be happy to know that he is safe."
Karen, UAN Program Director

All we need is the boy! :D

13. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but the dog in the photo doesn't
look like a terrier mix at all. It looks like some sort of poodle or bichon mix.

18. Terrier mixes come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes...
I can see your point about the Bichon, but I still think it could be a terrier mix...or a pup identified as one by shelter personnel. Google-photo "terrier mix" and you'll see what I mean.

Another element often used in determining the mix of breeds is the general temperment of the dog. Feistier animals of questionable parentage often get the "terrier mix" label placed on them in an effort to place them with families that can handle them properly.

I gather that the HS has concluded that this is the right dog by the tag, since the vet records have confirmed the animal.

31. I know terriers very well and from the photos, there seem to be no
terrier characteristics. I really pray that Snowball was rescued, as everyone's dog (this has been heartbreaking to me), but I just can't see where the dog which has been found, if it is Snowball, is being called a terrier mix. Especially by a relief organization who should be familiar with many breeds and mixed breeds of dogs.

5. The sad fact is that if the boy is in a shelter,
they will not allow him to have the dog. Maybe someone will foster Snowball until the boy gets a place to live.

They're probably waiting to learn where the boy is so that the foster will be close enough for visits between Snowball and his family.

6. I sure hope that the rescued dog really is Snowball
PLEASE let it be Snowball!! They describe the rescued dog as a "terrier mix," but Snowball looks to be a Maltese mix or poodle. That fur is not a terrier's. I just hope they've got the right dog and haven't given up looking for small white dogs, just in case. I wonder how they made the confirmation? Is it possible he was chipped? Or did that collar have tags?

11. OH thank you
for posting this info. I didn't know the story about the little boy but I caught the last part of that story. I saw the little white doggie running back and forth and looking for a way to get on the bus. Then someone in uniform pushed the dog back so the bus wouldn't run him over.

I was just talking to my husband about this story last night. I have one dog who won't let me out of her sight and she would go nuts if I had to leave like that.

I'm so happy the dog is ok. I hope Snowball gets with his family soon.

16. There were witnesses to this incident...
Anyone with half a heart who saw this would pick up the dog and do their best to see that the right thing was done.

Maybe even the cop, who undoubtedly could have handled things better, but was also following orders. This pic makes me wonder if he wasn't crying about what he'd just done:

23. A friend of mine told me that
there were 2 NOPD suicides in this mess...

As critical as I am sometimes about police, I can't help feeling for those who've stuck with this tragedy, and those who've died in it.

Whatever disasters they've been trained to deal with, no drill could possibly pepare them for the magnitude of Katrina's aftermath and the US government's incompetence.

29. I heard about the suicides and this is the first time I've put the 2
stories together. Not that one of the sucicides was involved with Snowball. I just wondered why the suicides in the middle of all of this - why not later on down the road in a post-traumatic stress moment.

But I agree with you that nothing could have prepared them for this.

17. Well, I am a volunteer for Small Paws Rescue and I receive
a confirmation from them that it has been confirmed that the little doggie that was found whas in fact Snowball!

You are right, Snowball does look like he might be partly Bichon, which is of course how our group got involved in this search!

The same volunteers are now working on reuniting Snawball with that little boy.

This is one of a very few bright lights in this whole disaster!

25. This is indeed a Bichon,
And it's not necessarily a mix. They come in all sizes, but he looks about the standard breed size. He just hasn't had the proper grooming. They are a very, very time consuming breed, when it comes to grooming maintenence. I have a "fluffer butt" better know as Flurry. He is full blood Bichon, but a "very large" one. He's about 16" at the withers, and weighs about 30lbs. I could spot a bichon a mile away! They have a tail that curls up and over their butt, like this one seems to have. thay also have a very dense undercoat. When properly groomed they look like a cotton ball.

Poodle mix. Would you, if you worked rescuing dogs all the time, call this dog a terrier mix? Just curious.

All of the ones I've ever seen have been large ones, like yours. That's why I pegged Snowball as either a Maltese mix or a poodle.

35. To shelters EVERY dog is a terrier mix!
I have two mutts that were listed as terrier mixes. These dogs could not be more different and neither particularly look like a terrier.

People just assume that if a dog is from a city it must have some pit in it. So it's not surprising that if this dog is Snowball that it would be described as a terrier mix.

39. LATEST UPDATE
I found the following post at http://www.snowballschance.org
I have a feeling that the pictures that were circulating around and that we've posted in this thread are of a dog that is not Snowball, based on what USAToday told the poster. Sounds like a reunion is on the way, which is most excellent news.

Now I hope the other little doggy (along with the thousands of other victimized pets) finds his people soon...

Before I start this post, I want to say first that we are not confirming that the photos posted in the photos, is snowball. I think we all have to come to a opinion in our own minds and piece the story together and see if he fits.

I think so. Others have said he is the puppy circulating around in the news.

And, if he is not snowball, he still needs to find his way home.

I was contacted by a reporter from USA TODAY
this morning. I let her view all parts of snowballschance.org under a anon account. She thinks your all angels. I hope its ok to quote a reporter?!! <warm smile>

We have spoken back and forth to one another all day today about snowball and she has helped us confirm some very important information. She is a sweet lady by the way, or should I say "cool", who also is concerned about the animals and snowball.

She will be printing an article tomorrow in USA TODAY. I have chosen not to attract attention to myself, but to continue what is so important to each and everyone in our hearts, here...And that is:

Helping the little boy and snowball reunite.
Helping other Survivor/Victims reunite with their pets.
Demanding that animal rescue organizations be allowed in to save animals. NO MORE RED TAPE.
Demanding that no one should have to leave their animals behind.

Exclaiming to all that need to hear IT, that the WOLRD wants to help these animals. There are homes available. There are volunteers available, whether trained or not, we want to help save animals.

We want to help Survivor/Victims by trusting in us to NOT GIVE UP. We will make noise and we will not go away. What has happened is a disgrace and it hurts deeply. WE WILL NOT GIVE UP. YOU HAVE ENOUGH BURDENS. PUT THE BURDENS ON OUR SHOULDERS AND WE HOPE YOU CAN FIND PEACE SOMEDAY IN YOUR ACHING HEARTS OF SUCH A DISASTER.
WE WILL DO WHATEVER WE CAN FROM ONE END OF THE EARTH TO THE NEXT, TO HELP YOU REUNITE WITH YOUR BELOVED PET(S).

We refuse to watch another video of a helpless animal left on a roof or swimming alone in the water and know that there is nothing anyone can do.

WE WILL NOT TOLERATE IT. Animal rescue groups have been allowed in to save animals now. They should have been allowed DAY 1!

Because of the many many many people out there who loves animals and are being their voice(s) right now, YOU ARE A HERO.

For those of you who wouldn't give up and contacted as many media outlets as you could. Spent countless numbers of hours researching....

For those of you are donating to animal rescue leagues.
For those of you who have stepped up to be heard.
Past around links. Joined in to fight for the animals.
Whatever the case, Your all HEROS.

Many have wrote wanting to get a law passed so that this will never ever happen again. I agree.

Yes, we love people. But, we also understand that animals cannot unchain themselves from a porch.
They can't understand why they are alone and starving and nothing to drink. There is allot they can't understand. They are innocent. They are very important facets of every day of our lives. They bring us happiness, as did the little boys puppy.

These people have suffered ENOUGH. WE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO TAKE THEIR ANIMALS AWAY FROM THEM SO THEY ARE LEFT TO WONDER.

All,

The reporter confirmed that SNOWBALL was identified by tags. The source confirmed that the puppy they have belongs to a little boy 5, or 6 years old. That he is the puppy circulating the news. They did not confirm the photos. GOD BLESS EVERYONE.

Look for the article in USA about snowballschance.org and lets continue on with our MISSIONS and know that even if this is not "the snowball" in the photos, SNOWBALL IS SAFE!!

I will post a poll so that you can share your opinion whether or not the pup in the pictures is our beloved snowball. As always, your vote is completely anon.

Thank you to every, every, everyone!

~Snowball's Chance
