46. Okay I get it
Is this General a National Guard?

Then his responses would make more sense. He's probably as po'd as the rest of us with what BushCo has done to the Guard. They've lost a lot of people because of BushCo.

directly. Because the hospitals have been trying and its a fact that they aren't there because they don't want to be.

24. Under DHS orders???
That's the question. Is Bush & Chertoff making that decision? Is it part of their plan to try and militarize the situation and send in troops? Is this really an experiment to see how hard it would be to put a state under martial law? I don't know, but my gut tells me there is something going on besides incompetence.

Bush, Chertoff, Brown. All responsible for what has gone on. Chertoff and Brown can hardly be described as "independent".

Did you see the hurricane timeline he delivered yesterday, unprompted and unasked? The one that made it clear that the feds (read: Bush) couldn't possibly be faulted for their response? It was an impressive bit of theater, and complete bullshit. He's in their pocket.

They need to bring the guard home from Iraq and let them do what they were trained for.

28. THIS WAS IN DEFENSE OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Not the feds. I just heard the whole thing again.

The reporter asked Honore if they were being prevented from rescuing anyone, because they don't have 'full authority' and Honore blew up and said that was BS. He said go there yourself, you can help all the people you want, there's no waiting for anything.

In other words, the RW spin is a load of bullshit!

31. Chertoff has left Gen. Honore out of the loop.. Chertoff tried to correct
Gen. Honore when he told the reporters that people are free to come down and help.. when Chertoff corrected him saying no, they have to go through FEMA, Chertoff stormed off in the middle of Chertoff's answer.. and Chertoff stopped mid-sentence and followed him..

i expect chertoff to get a good verbal smacking around by Honore in the next few minutes for leaving him hanging out to dry like that

40. I think he just did an end-run around FEMA
Honore just told everyone to come and help, that they wouldn't be stopped by red tape.

Chertoff responded with some bullshit about how things must go through the proper channels, be co-ordinated by the proper authorities, etc. Honore then stormed off.

Honore just let everyone know that the NG wants the help & will let people help. If you want to help contact him, don't go through FEMA.

41. I watched a small mini spot on either CNN or MSNBC the other day on Honore
Standing on his command corner, beating a cigar nub to death with his mouth, screaming at soldiers in their trucks going by to lower their damn weapons, that he would not let them go out with their guns in shooting position when all they were doing was delivering food to FELLOW AMERICANS.

Love on the spot for me.

not Chertoff, Brown, or Bush. He may be John Wayne when it comes to getting things moving on the tarmac, but in terms of camouflaging abject incompetence at the federal level, he's no Atlas.
