2. He's the "John Wayne dude"
That Mayor Nagin referred to in that oft-played interview.

17. Wondered the same thing
Looked him up to figure out why this guy in particular was chosen. He's currently the Commander of 1st Army at Ft. Gilliam (Atlanta). His last job was Commander of Northern Command, the military arm of Homeland Security. Not casting stones either way, probably getting a bit frustrated with the support he gets from both sides when he's doing the best he can with what he's been given. This is his home (Lakeland, LA) and he has the background, even if it is kind of scary.

3. Known as the crazy cajun - this is his home turf.
He doesn't take crap from anyone. He made the soldiers in NO lower their guns and quit pointing them at people.

4. tell that to those in the other new threads...
72 hours ago they were laying palms at his feet for taking charge and being the antidote to FEMA ineptitude.

Now he deals harshly with some reporter's idiot questions, and he's a Bushbot and the Antichrist.

Makes me sick.

9. The "reporter's idiot questions" were not directed to him but he jumped on
his high horse to defend the FEMA bunglers.

21. Wrong! he didn't defend FEMA.. he said there's no red tape keeping people
from helping.. .chertoff tried to correct him which caused the general to storm off in disgust!! the general is out of the loop with the FEMA issue.. he's not dragging his feet on responding and THAT is what he was answering to..

12. Some people expect these people to cuss out Bush and FEMA.
It's not going to happen. Honore has a job to do and I think he's doing a good job. FEMA is the one screwing up.

5. He's a baffoon and apologist for FEMA/Mike Brown and Bush. He
just pulled a "high and mighty" Rummy type scolding of reporters at a press conference.

6. I'm offended with the term Baffoon.
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 02:00 PM by xultar
He isn't an apologist for FEMA and he's backing up the LA gov.

He more than likely doesn't know what FEMA is doing. Why? Because FEMA doesn't know what he is doing.

Why do you think him a Baffoon. That is his home state and he has done more than HA, FEMA and the entire government have done in 2 days than they have the entire week.

19. YES I DID...FEMA doesn't fall under his responsibilities. He's NG.
He's angry cuz he's taking up for his people. NOT FUCKING FEMA.

WHEN FEMA was blaming the GOV he was taking up for the Govenor.

Perhaps you can't tell Honore is a Black man. Using the term Baffon is offensive to me.

Honore told them flat out there was no security issue. New Orleans is secured.

14. I disagree.. I don't get the apologist crap I keep hearing.
I think he's trying to keep a lot of players in line because he needs their resources. His way of doing it is to tell people to get in line. Chertoff was grudgingly deferential during that conference.

16. Actually he was defendng the honor and good people of NOLA.
He wants people down there to help. So what better way than to invite them during a live press conference and DARE FEMA to foul it up. Those reports will go to Honore, so the worst possible thing just happened - Michael Brown now works for Honore and he & Chertoff didn't notice...

a command maneuver that any senior executive or leader would have just recognized. "If you have problems, I am the guy to see (Honore)." Honore didn't leave a mark on Brown, but he is still just as dead.

26. How long will it be before he is relieved of duty for a more Colin Powell-
commander who is willing to be subservient to the whites/

When Honore walked out of the press conference he made Chernoff look like an absolute fool and that is something that a black man just doesn't do in the south.

28. Honore just innoculated himself. Bush may have just
appointed the one guy who will NOT serve quietly and be graceful. The best part was Chertoff & Brown left not understanding they got the worst of it, not the reporter. Honore will protect and defend the people of NOLA, not some dumbass bureaucratic idiot that has hurt the people with ineptitude.

for the Govenor and he's not in charge of FEMA.

Too bad he doesn't rise to your standards. He's done more since Thursday than DOD, HS & FEMA did in 7 days.

25. There's a reason he went defensive when St Bernard parish was mentioned
Cuz as of midnight last night, there was still hell breaking loose there. This is a LONG post but to see what St Bernard Parish is still going thru, read thru it, especially the last part about asking for CDC help.

Per last night's scanner broadcast, the shelter officials there were having to beg for medical attention...7 days post-storm. Here is some of what was transcribed:

Initial broadcast has the parish guy asking for help:

"Serious medical crisis"

Guy is pleading to get refugees medical help
Is told "Medical people "gone for the day"
---------------------------------------
"We have a person with diabetes that needs medical attention
at a school with 100 people, many having medical problems, can we get a medical team down there?"

Response: "I will pass it along"

-----------------------------------

"Diabetes, uncontrolled hypertension, we are overwhelmed"
"Grave issues...lots of sick people". "High priority right now"

"You want a representive on the radio, I'll go get them now, hold on"
-----------------------------
-----------------------
"Potential diseases. Airborne pathogens, Hardest hit areas d/t chemicals."

"Sick, dead, dying animals"

Asking for large containers to move these animals
----------------------
person named Monique:
"We will get our environmental specialist on the phone to address your concerns, that way we can send what you need and prophylactic
medicines you need."

Guy that she is talking to:
"Everything that was in the book and what we predicted and then some is happening."
----------------------------------
Request military hospital at this location...

How many people are you treating?
2,000. Expect to reach more in St Bernards once water goes down

Things St Bernard offical is requesting:
Military medical response team, medical hospital set up
4 mosquito abatement teams ground and air
-Vet response team dogs rinning wild, attacking, sick, aggressive dogs
CDC support for disease control assistance for disease outbreak
(epidemiolgy support wanted)
Urgent need for tetanus, gammoglobulin shots, yellow fever

The parish already has 2 paramedics, 2 nurses, but no MD.
Ambulance needed, smooth transition to give relief to people who have been doing this for a week now.

Dept of Health and Hospitals operator:
"I'll talk to the feds, tell them what we need and see how fast we can get it."
