2. That is what compassion looks like.
When she said, "Let them take a TV! They won't be getting far with it anyhow. Maybe they are so poor that they never touched anything like this in their lives. Let them touch it!" Oh my gosh. What a contrasting image to the typical rootin' tootin' American!

7. That's a much better file than the one Crooks & Liars has...
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 03:39 PM by Bush_Eats_Beef
...and yes, C&L has to really compress video files due to high traffic, so their efforts are appreciated REGARDLESS of that.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/09/04.html#a4793

I posted the C&L link in another thread earlier today. What struck me is how she completely broke down, alternating between helplessness and rage and "WE MUST DO SOMETHING," and Larry king basically interrupted and said "So...you feel like SINGIN'?"

:grr:

How dare you say about the victims of Katrina "They are stealing because they are so poor they have never touched anything in their lives, like 20 pairs of jeans or TV sets."

Does she think before she talks or what?

33. I just want to hug her.
It's so easy to dish her. But I think that Celine has in many ways become "an american".

I'm part Canadian. My step-mom is from Alberta so I feel very much a Canadian too.

My family and friends in Canada love the US. They don't like THIS government, but they love America. My wonderful 92 year old grandmother (my step-grandmother) and I sat down this weekend and talked about this whole mess.

She's a big fan of Al Franken and I set her little AM radio so she can listen to him on her local Air America station. I'm trying to get her to become a Randi Rhodes fan as well.

I'm blessed. I'm bless by god that I have an extended family that have the history of coming from a communist country (my step-grandfather who I never met was from Hungary) that understand what it's really all about.

Sometimes I am shocked when I hear things from my family that I would never think I would hear.

I'm not so "out there" as I tend to think.

18. Kick it and nominate it!
My sister in law lives in Vegas and we saw Celine together about a year ago. She saw she last night and said she was just wondeful.

She's a pro when it comes to her performances. She was probably on the edge of losing it last night.

Larry King is a dick. He should have just let her vent.

This was not an act. Celine grew up with a very large family and didn't have a lot.

People like to poke fun at her for being a diva and whatever, but that was pure emotion.

Viva Celine.

no matter the choice of song/prayer, the was just an incredible forced transition from rant to song.

if larry king had any decency he would have let her rant more and not asked her to sing.

my respect for celine dion soared during the rant, but i would have had so much more respect for her if she had said, sorry larry, this is just not the time for song.

all that being said, VERY nice rant, thanks for posting!

32. I will defend her for singing
This was before she went on stage. She knows that what she does (singing) is how she expresses herself. I think had it not been before a concert, she would have not sang.

I love Celine for this. It's corny, but when I saw her perform, she's one of those rare singers that can touch your heart.

Larry King was an asshole. I think Celine went back into "singer" mode and her choice of songs was very sweet.

I just loved her saying "my check doesn't mean nothing, they need food and water".

Viva Quebec!!! Viva Celine.

56. She is a professional.
She said she has felt so badly, but she has to get out there and sing every night out of respect for those who come to hear her sing.

I think she knew he was going to ask her to sing--he did the same thing last night (?) with LeeAnn Rimes, who wasn't nearly as emotional as Celine was.

31. Larry King is a scumdog
Long, long before I began to notice certain things going on within the US 'news' media, the very sight or sound of him brought me to the verge of Elvisizing my TV. He's just always grated on my otherwise fairly robust nerves, to an extreme beyond all rational explanation, and so it was with relief that I began to realize that he really is a vacuous, egocentric idiot worthy of nothing but contempt. I don't know how anyone can watch the creepy mofo.

"Well, that's all very nice, Celine, but how about a song?"

"Baisez-vous, tete-de-merde..."

42. Larry King is an old, bland man
He always glosses things over, it is how he gets his "gets." You will never get more out of him, because he does not have it in him. People who will not do a tough interview will do him, because he coddles. He will NEVER ask the brutal questions, he always couches everything in bland, inoffensive words so that everyone from Clinton to Poppy to Newt will appear on his show, knowing that he will skirt around the issues but not go for the throat, and will not humiliate his guests or get their blood pressure up. Even when there is no justification, he will always postulate both sides of an issue, but again, in a BLAND way.

He has a huge international audience, mainly because for years he was the only, or one of the few, English language interview shows one could get abroad. Also, his slow style of questioning is understandable if English is a second language.

He is getting past his sell-by date...

As for Larry King, aside from being a complete dick, he is really crap at interviewing people. I don't think I've ever seen him interview someone without constantly interrupting. He asks questions but doesn't appear to want to hear the answer. It's all about him.

that I turned the channel when I saw she was coming on because I thought it was going to be the usual celebrity melodrama and I can take or leave Celine. But when I heard about what she said...well, I'm glad to have had a chance to hear it. It was real and it came from her heart. It was not just another celebrity cryfest.

I won't have the heart to be criticizing her again.

55. But she was booted out of that one casino...
I know it was motivated by some freepers in the audience, but also the freeper management chose to boot her for her stating/singing her views. I'm just wondering if this same casino (if they had Dion performing instead of Ronstadt) would have done the same thing with Dion expressing her opinions. My guess is that greed might have held them back! Which in a way is a GOOD thing! That means as more mainstream artists start speaking out, it will be that much harder for these freeper outfits to squelch artists from speaking their mind on how this administration has been doing business.

I know Celine's been given a lot of crap for other things. But, damn, I'm proud that she had the guts to come out the way she did. I hope she stays the course instead of selling out the way Mick Jagger and company did when the "money pressure" tried to push down "Sweet Neocon" out of the public eye.
