Brian Williams blog: "cruel and criminal". Must read. He was there.
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 08:09 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
In a strange way, the most outrageous news pictures of this day may be those of progress: The palettes of food and water that have just been dropped at selected landing zones in the downtown area of New Orleans. It's an outrage because all of those elements existed before people died for lack of them: There was water, there was food, and there were choppers to drop both. Why no one was able to combine them in an air drop is a cruel and criminal mystery of this dark chapter in our recent history

snip>

The concept of an air drop of supplies was one we apparently introduced to the director of FEMA during a live interview on Nightly News on Thursday evening. (Watch Brian's interview with FEMA Dir. Michael Brown from Sept. 1.) He responded by saying that he'd been unaware of the thousands gathered at the Convention Center. Later that evening an incredulous Ted Koppel on ABC was left with no choice but to ask if the FEMA director was watching the same television coverage as the rest of the nation.

Great reading, no punches pulled. References the NWS warning, in all its dire and accurate predictions.

He also addresses the poor treatment of the evacuees at the Superdome before the storm even hit.

1. And he is going back.
Said so tonight on the news. Apparently he cannot stay away. Brian should know about the treatment of the Superdome evacuees. He was there. I know have great respect for him...not just a pretty face.

6. I didn't respect him much before. I have much more esteem for him
since he spent that time in the Superdome, before, during and after the hurricane.

He has gone from anchor to journalist, in my view. MKJ

10. To me, this is unreal..after what I've
heard from Brian Williams coddling the bushwa for 5 years.

But, I know people can change and it sounds like Katrina and the aftermath was Brian's catylyst. I hope he doesn't go back. It would be earth shattering to have an NBC evening newscaster who tells it like it is.

14. I know, I KNOW! Brian Williams of all people seemed to want
nothing more than to excuse the bfee on all counts.

I think he thought that Katrina would pass over NO, and whatever happened, he could do the "man on the scene" without getting his hair mussed.

And, now that he lived that hell that was NO after Katrina and before FEMA...Well, yeah, that kind of thing changes a person. As you said, his epiphany, his catalyst. MK

17. I've liked him since he covered the F5 in Oklahoma
he was the ONLY anchor on that night covering that storm live, giving up to date info on where the storm was heading. I have family in Tulsa who don't have cable...their local stations had minimal coverage so I stayed on the phone with sis as i watched Williams' MSNBC show that was on back then..relaying to her what he was saying, etc...

the 2001 inaugural protest when he lied and announced on TV that there were only a few scattered protesters. There were thousands of us.

Finally he's seeing the evil he's been enabling.

....he has said he listens to Rush on the way to the network each day, and claims to be a friend of Limbaugh's.

I'll never forgive him for using the phrase "we Republicans" on election night 2000. But it's good that he's getting a social conscience, if he is.

23. To add, I don't think for one minute that he is getting a social
conscience. He is just playing follow the leader.Wait and see. Quite a few are going along right now , but this can change in a minute. I already perceived a shift tonight while monitoring the MSM. Lou Dobbs had such a slanted view and many innuendos , plus a poorly worded poll. They are all ready to blame the Govenor of LA. and all the officials. Just watch and see what has already started. The big spin is in place.

25. Williams; right -wing angle. Blame everyone but protect his man Bush!
As long as Bush is protected, everyone under him who stays loyal gets rewarded...

That's always been the republican phyosphy...protect the king at all cost, even if it means taking the blame yourself...because with the king protected, he can reward you hansomely...

It's NEVER Bush's fault!

27. A most telling point!
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 08:16 AM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
The most telling point! The one overarching crime, in which the slow death by dehydration of all those long-suffering human beings - men women and children - found its origin.

"In a strange way, the most outrageous news pictures of this day may be those of progress: The palettes of food and water that have just been dropped at selected landing zones in the downtown area of New Orleans. It's an outrage because all of those elements existed before people died for lack of them: There was water, there was food, and there were choppers to drop both. Why no one was able to combine them in an air drop is a cruel and criminal mystery of this dark chapter in our recent history".

The cretinous failure/refusal to upgrade the leveees led to the cataclysm that is now New Orleans. Unbelievable real estate damage and destruction, and financial losses on even more levels. But that pales into relative insignificance for decent human beings, as did the destruction wreaked across Europe in WWII.

Palettes are the boards that painters put gobs of paint on.
