Those that have espoused the anti "big government" types are in part responsible for the extent of this catastrophe. I recall hearing an analysis after the OK city bombing, Clinton made a case that government can and should be a force for good in the nation.
MS and AL are notorious in how anti tax they are but unfortunately I think repukes in those states have cleverly been able to twist scripture in making people believe Jesus would be against taxes. They have also pitted poor whites and poor blacks against each other. I hope the people realize that you can't have a decent infrastructure and enjoy tax cuts (then again the poor aren't even benefitting from them in any way) but that's a nationwide problem.
Those struck the hardest by this disaster are the poor and the black and most statistics show that they do vote democratic. The problem isn't really with the states in particular when you get down to it. It's with self absorbed suburbanites (many who happen to be white) in just about any state. I'll admit, I'm a suburbanite, but many of the people atleast in my area are obsessed with their SUVs, McMansions, and don't give a shit about people outside of their immediate surroundings. The only thing that matters to them now are rising gas prices.
And I live in a "blue" state.

I love that!
To the OP, coming from a red state I just want to say it always makes me mad to hear all of that stuff but it certainly has not split me away from the rest of you. I think that holds true for most of us here but it never helps with someone on the fence or thinking about maybe changing. Thanks.

I live in Bergen County, Nj and here its the same. People seem self absorbed, worrying about their SUV's, McMansions, and out of touch what is beyond sight. I think gas at $4.00 a gallon is a very sudden and rude wake up call that screams "NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT'S GOING ON".
MSM is on board, the levee has broken and ain't no stopping it now. It's a matter of time, but the GOP is going to pay big time.
