"Sean Penn gets into rescue act"
Sean Penn, isn't he the actor that the repugnant ones love to vilify. Gee, I don't see any of them mucking through that toxic waste trying to help these people.

Sean Penn gets into rescue act

BY NICOLE BODE
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Sean Penn (center, with shoulder bag) helps carry Katrina victim to safety on Napoleon St. in New Orleans last night. Actor, who used boat to evacuate people, says he came to do 'whatever I can to help.'

NEW ORLEANS - Sean Penn took matters into his own hands yesterday, launching a boat in a personal effort to rescue New Orleans families stranded by Hurricane Katrina.
The Oscar-winning actor and political activist managed to reach several people who had been trapped in their homes since the hurricane hit Monday.

Penn, who was accompanied by his personal photographer and a crew of helpers, brought the victims to dry land - and gave them cash as well.

Johnnie Brown, 73, a retired custodian, called his sister on a cell phone after being plucked from his flooded house. "Guess who come and got me out of the house? Sean Penn the actor. Them boys were really nice," he said.

1. I'm glad he saved lives
I thrashed him around earlier...maybe yesterday...can't remember.

Anyway, sorry about that, Sean. You did good! Keep it up!

3. What had he done
that you were thrashing him about? I can't keep up with everything.
Anyway, yes he did good.

12. The article I read first came across more like...
photo-op time. He had his personal photographer with him.

The fact his boat had sprung a leak really didn't help matters.

16. True, it may have had a little photo-op attached
But at least he's there actually doing something

24. He has a photographer with him...
for documention. The SF Chronicle has run several series by him on his trips to Iraq, Iran, and a few other politiacl things he's been involved with. They have all had extensive accompanying photography from the scenes. I have no doubt he wants to make sure that the world can see what he is seeing.

I give the guy high kudos for trying to make a differance.

4. i'm so grateful that he did this, but i ask the following:
why, why, why was he able to get inside NO, while medical staff and mental health professionals such as myself were only allowed to work in the shelters with the people that had already evacuated?

not that i'm complaining about working in the shelters and not that i'm ungrateful that penn was able to do get down there. instead, i'll be forever astounded that people like me weren't able to get into places like the superdome and the convention center where help was desperately needed.

6. Wish I knew why
Can only imagine that they "had" to let him in or he'd be publicizing the fact that they didn't, having the means and the big name recognition to get it on TV.

22. He probably had to wade through as much red tape
as he has toxic sewage-he might have been there a lot earlier, too, if FEMA weren't making it a bureaucratic nightmare for everyone wanting to help!

7. I use to hate him. But when he went to Iraq as a journalist I got a lot of
respect for him. He did good today. Saved more than * personally did. Now that would have been a photo op - * in the water with the alligators rescuing people. Guess he had a fund raise to go to instead.

bill frist posed for the cameras with his stethoscope around his neck, but Pres. Gore and Sean penn actually pitched in to help without clamering for face time on the national news.

I didn't know he was involved in helping down there. Makes you think of what could have been and instead we get this vile murderer ruling our country.

15. Woo hoo!!
I used to so hate Sean Penn, way back in the Madonna days, but over time he's proven himself an incredible actor and a greaet political activist.

Let's hear it for the people who actually go do something, instead of talk about it!

:woohoo:

17. On CNN they just mentioned
that folks that are refusing to leave don't trust the authorities. I wonder if more would be willing to leave in folks like Sean Penn were the ones showing up to do the rescue.

31. Methinks the media will latch onto this one sentence fragment:
Penn, who was accompanied by his personal photographer....

In an effort to discredit his actions. Watch for it; these assbabies are predictable. :eyes:

BTW, Right on, Spicoli!
