Names I never heard before, names I'll never forget: Jabbor and Deamonte
Jabbor Gibson: the 18-year old who found a school bus, loaded it with stranded New Orleansians, and drove it to the Astrodome, arriving there ahead of all of the other evacuees, in the so-called renegade bus. He had never driven a bus before that day.

Deamonte Love: the 6-year old who kept six children--including his brother and two cousins--ranging in age from 5 months to 3 years old, safely under his wing until they were all rescued and reunited with their parents.

Heroes, both of them.

1. Deamonte mother's name is Katrina
In addition to the Yahoo story, it was on TV too. His mothers name is actually Catrina. He told the rescuers his mother's name was Katrina and they didn't know what to think.
Like a Greek myth, a child of the storm.

3. We southerners have a WIDE variety of unusual names.....
Jabbor and Deamonte are both lovely names. I believe that Jabbor may have been arrested for stealing that damned bus and, if so, whoever issued the order should be shot. He is a hero, not a criminal.

4. Re: Jabbor's arrest, I think that was only a rumor based on...
...a reporter's remark that he could be in trouble for taking the bus. I haven't seen any follow up that he really was arrested. I hope he wasn't, in any event. He deserves the Medal of Freedom.

5. According to a poster here earlier, an attorney, he has indeed been
jailed but will receive free legal representation. Sorry, I don't know where that thread is.
