Be careful of the use of 'government'.
Just a heads up in that I've noticed a lot of people (especially TV personalities) talk about the failure of the 'government'. There's no telling who they mean if they're using a vague term like that. Don't be surprised when you rallied behind your favorite politician when all he/she meant was that they thought the local government was at fault.

1. I assume they are using that broad term so that they can shift the blame
downward to the locals. Make sure to keep saying FEDERAL government.

2. And if it's not Congress or the Court , they should say White House

3. Make sure to say the bush administration
Federal government is still too vague, and actually helps those RWers who want to shrink it down and kill it off.

4. local vs fed'l
that's right.........the conservatives want this to be a failure of local govt but it is really a failure of FEMA and fed'l govt.

In an article I saw yesterday written by Larry Johnson, he states that local govt should inform fed'l that they need assistance (as they did last week in La). But even if they don't inform fed'l, it is still fed'l govt's responsibility to respond when damage is this catastrophic.

I agree, it's very important to make sure people know you are talking about a failure at the fed'l level..........especially if you're talking to a conservative.

5. Government = Dems/Liberals
The 2 decades have relentless promotion of the idea that Republicans are "Anti-Big Gubmint" have worked like a charm. Doesn't matter that they CONTROL the government and have made it HUGE. In the minds of many sheeple they are separate and distinct and the government is run by welfare-lovin' liberals just like the media.

I don't use the word government AT ALL when discussing Katrina. I say Bush Administration, always.

Not government - Bush Administration. Got it? Keep repeating until they finally get the connection.
