Viggo Mortensen's letter at Perceval Press
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 12:03 AM by Drewskie
Impeach, Remove, Jail
In the often and rightly quoted words of Bill Clinton, "There's nothing wrong with America that can't be fixed by what's right with America." We see now how individuals and groups around the country continue to act in any way they can to help their fellow citizens in Louisiana, Mississippi and other devastated places near the Gulf of Mexico. They refuse to stand idly by and wait for President Bush and his morally-bankrupt, pirate administration to respond in an appropriately urgent and compassionate manner to the escalating agony and desperation of our fellow citizens. As we know, this agony and desperation was caused in large part by a near complete absence of adequate federal government funding, preparedness, and leadership. We the people will continue to help Americans and non-Americans alike, with or without the participation or approval of George W. Bush and his Neo-Conservative cohorts. While it is true that what is most important right now is to rescue, feed, house, and in any way possible care for those immediately affected by the disaster, it is equally true that in the long run those directly responsible for aggravating the tragic situation must be held accountable. The mounting evidence of the Bush administration's criminal mismanagement of the nation, as well as its consistently arrogant disregard for our planet's people and natural environments must be confronted immediately. Those who voted for Bush last year, or who have continually supported his outlaw administration in its destructively dishonest conduct -- including not only extremist conservatives but also politically-calculating democrats -- need not hang their heads or avert their eyes now. What they can and ought to do is join the increasing numbers of Americans who are demanding that impeachment proceedings be initiated as soon as possible. Members of the Bush Administration responsible for the blatant lies and self-serving manipulations that have fanned the flames of disaster from Iraq to New Orleans must be prosecuted as our laws require. We must insist on this. Furthermore, we must not allow these disgracefully unpatriotic public servants to be pardoned by any future president as Gerald Ford did for Richard Nixon. Please call or write your government representatives and help get the scoundrels out of government and in prison where they belong. Do not allow the subject to be changed, do not be distracted. The time to act is now. Take back your country.
- Viggo Mortensen.

Never seen any of his movies, but that's impressive.

He needs to hook up with Martin Sheen, Tim Robbins & Susan Sarandon, etc. Get the momentum going.

26. I'm half Danish...
...and while I love my Swedish Neighbors to the North (since we are all Vikings), I can tell you, the Danes would tell you that we are far better....at Soccer, lovemaking, drinking, hockey, etc.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist answering your post...

PS: I'm short and blonde...must be because I'm only half viking :)

I think the Swedes and the Danes may fight over that whole founding Rus thing.

Yes, I was playing too-- Norge here. So I know about the Very Important Distinctions amongst nationalities....

A "Scandinavian Humor" book describes each country's traditions and character with a photo-- different costumes, etc. Each photo is the SAME blonde guy in different get-ups.

Yeah, no one gets our humor either..... what's so funny bout stinky fish?

38. My husband's family is Norwegian...so yeah, I'm very familiar w/ the whole
debate amongst the Scandinavians....And then there are the Finns....a whole another twist into the mix....But I'd move to any of the Scandinavian countries in a heart beat...Perhaps my favorite thing about when I'm there (amongst many other things) are the traditional songs...especially the drinking songs...and ofcourse mid-summer celebration....Yes, our Viking forefather's had such great Pagan tradition that should never be lost....

That Humor book sounds funny...I'll have to find it....Gawd only knows we need some humor in these dark times....

18. But he was born right here in New Yawk!
Where he should be again, with me...

From imdb.com:

Born in New York to a Danish father and an American mother, Mortensen spent the early part of his childhood in Manhattan. His family traveled a great deal and he spent several years living in Venezuela, Argentina and Denmark. He began acting in New York, studying with Warren Robertson. He appeared in several plays and movies, and eventually moved to Los Angeles, where his performance in "Bent" at the Coast Playhouse earned him a Drama-logue Critic's Award. Mortensen is also an accomplished poet, photographer and painter.

52. No, to say that * is Sauron is too much of an insult
An insult to Sauron, that is. Sauron, great and powerful servant of the creator, evillest and baddest henchman of the original Dark Lord, master of werewolves, corrupter of humanity, dark lord of Mordor, creator of the Rings, master of Nazgul, all-seeing eye, Great Enemy, blah blah blah. Think that * is a little bit out of his league here? He doesn't rise any higher than a Saruman, at the most. Just a scheming opportunist with delusions of grandeur. Don't flatter him.

Renaissance man, and a progressive! And a MAJOR Bush-hater (he speaks out against Bush in interviews all the time).

In addition to acting, he writes poetry, owns Perceval Press, speaks several languages, is an artist, writer and photographer.

He's too cool for color TV.

You go, Viggo!

45. Love it!! Here's another one...long, but worth it from Sam.
Sam: "I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. Because they were holding on to something."

Frodo: "What are we holding on to, Sam?"

Sam: "That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Don't you think he has to pick his nose in public or something??? Guess not or some rag would have snapped and published a picture by now.

Seriously, there has to be some flaw, right????

Oh well, I'd gladly take him even if he was a nose-picker. He's got a beautiful mind!

I do so love Viggo!!!

On edit: He has a new movie - A History of Violence - that opens Sept. 30 (I believe) and we should all go support him. I've heard the movie is very good also.
