Let's look at Poppy Bush/Clinton coalition at what it truly is |
|
Damage Control. Poppy is desperately trying to lend some credibility to his dimson's second term by cultivating an alliance with Bill Clinton, the most revered and respected politician of our era. And Bill Clinton, who obviously feels very sad about the way things are going in the US since his departure from the White House, sees this as an opportunity to shore up his former base and keep the Democrats working together to keep the faith going. What is interesting about all this to me is, Poppy is so desperate to help his son that he aligns himself with the man who beat him out of a second term AND the man who his son and allies DESPISED so MUCH that they tried to impeach him. So we should not be, as Democrats, anxious to paint Bill Clinton with the brush of traitor. We should, instead, be amused and proud that even the Republicans can't find a better spokesperson than our Bill. And I think we should also take a page from Bill's book - (figuratively speaking) and not be so quick to judge. Even Poppy can't help his poor son from looking like an idiot.

And Babs seems to be doing her level best to make the entire family look like a bunch of oblivious Marie Antionettes.

4. Why is everyone so infatuated with Clinton? |

All the negative Clinton threads are about as useful as the latest episode of 'One life to live'. What does all the bickering accomplish? Clinton's not even in office any more and can't be.

5. My thread is not negative. |
|
I'm simply trying to place a new spin on the alliance, from my perspective. And if you don't care, don't read it.

6. Sorry, I should have read the whole thing. |

I thought it was another Clinton bashing thread in response to Mr. Spocks positive thread and I was getting tired of all the bickering. I should have read the whole post. I hate it when people do that to me, so I apologies.

8. Good post and interesting perspective |
|
Many of the Clinton threads I read (both for and against) focus solely on him and what his "motives" are. But you point out something that I don't think I've seen before -- rather than Clinton cozying up to Poppy, maybe Poppy needs him to help with damage control. But also, maybe Poppy realizes that DimSon is such a freakin' loser that he will turn to someone of Bill's stature as ex-president who can string two intelligent and coherent sentences together.
Plus, while I will admit that Bill loves the spotlight, he also loves people and genuinely cares about them, again unlike DimSon. I think Bill genuinely wants to help, and since he cannot do it in the capacity of current President, he found another way to do it.
As to what appears to be an acutal liking and affection for Poppy, I'm wondering if any of you have ever had a friend that, when you learn more about them, you seem kind of surprised that you still like the person. I have.

9. Blatant test marketing that |
|
They wanna see how the public reacts to those 2 pallin around, they are setting us up for the inevitable impeachment of jr. After dimwit and co are gone Clinton and Bush sr will share the job as interim presidents until the 08 election.
Sorry, let me respond with a little more seriousness to you also PT, There does appear to be a bit of marketing going on here. It looks to me like jr. is hitchen a ride on what is left of daddy and bubba's coattails. I have been trying to figure it out, "Why has Bill and George HW been so chummy lately?", It has been downright eerie. Your version feels closest to the truth of any I have heard so far. If you are right then dubya is in more hot water than we really know and this bodes well for America. My respect for Bill Clinton just went back up a notch or two for this.

10. Clinton is lending some much needed "gravitas" to the bushes. |

Clinton front and center in a time of crisis is a good thing. You are right. Even if he has to sully himself by partnering with Beezlebush, Sr.
