FEMA/NG/HS will stop doing water drops to get people to leave
their homes. Some don't want leave their home for fear of looting. Others refuse to leave their pets who can't go with them. FEMA just said on CNN that they will stop their water drops to get the people to leave. Does this seem cruel to you? Isn't there a better way? What if people start drinking the contaminated water? :scared:

1. Everything about this "relief" effort has been cruel
This doesn't surprise me at all.

4. People can be forced out.
You don't have to do this. Two armed members of the national guard can usually do the trick.

5. Can you blame anyone for not trusting their government right now?
They were left to die for DAYS, and I'm sure some heard about the deplorable conditions in the Superdome (the "sanctioned" hurricane shelter).

I'd have to think long and hard before letting the gov't relocate me, at this point.

However, I do believe the best thing for NOLA survivors to do is get out of NOLA, given the present toxicity of it.

It's just so damn fucked up, isn't it?

6. Those people have to leave
I don't know about refusing them water - seems too extreme - but those people have to leave and leave now. Soon some awful disease is going to start making rounds - cholera or even typhus could spread.

They must leave. I wish rescuers would just allow them to bring their pets already.

12. Are you willing to kill them if they don't leave?
That's what's going to happen. If they don't starve quickly enough the troops will gun them down.

14. Last I heard, this is still a free country. They should leave for their
health and own well being, but they are not obligated to do so. Perhaps a KINDLY priest or minister could talk them out? There has to be a better more compassionate way other than starving them and depriving them of water?

I understand full well why they don't want to leave the ONLY thing they have left, their home. It's sad. So damn sad!

8. Somebody besides the military needs to talk to them,
and explain what the situation really is. The (few) people I've seen on the teevee were not hostile about staying. But they need to understand the realities. They need to be given a chance to take at least their most important belongings. And yes, they need to be able to take their pets.

11. I saw that and added it to my outrage...
dammit, some of these people are being sent a LONG way from home, with no resources to get back to NO, no family where they are being sent.

If you were poor from NO and did not have two sticks to rub together, how great would it be to be sent to OHIO, where you have no friends, no family, no roots...and then be stuck there cause you do not have two sticks to rub together?

I admit, I would likely stay too. And there is no reason for FEMA to STARVE them out...this is not a war, this is not Berlin circa 1948 (re: Berlin Airlift period)http://www.archaeolink.com/berlin_germany_city_study.htm

these are fellow Americans. Not animals you are trying to starve out of a hole.

I thought I could not be more appalled, however, I was wrong.

13. Sounds like a Bush Administration tactic ?
"Well just starve 'em outta there" Next thing you know, they'll be tossing tear gas into those homes!

Geesh George, just set up floating supply boats. It's in the Homeland Security manifest you created.

If you can get rescuers to their homes, you can get aid. They are only protecting what they have left in their lives, they've lost everything else!
