Why is Rehnquist getting pope-like coverage now? |
|
With all due respect, of course.

5. Death has a way of turning people into Popes. |
|
Human nature. Just like it's human nature for people to slow down on the freeway to get a good look at an accident.
Just like a dog instinctively sniffs another dog's hind end.
Instinct.
We like to turn people into Popes when they die.

7. Eh, he was the chief justice. |
|
I expect there to be some level of pomp & circumstance for a chief justice, regardless of how anyone feels about his politics. This will pass pretty quickly, though.

16. Oh, I don't deny him the ceremonial pomp and respect.... |
|
...but live t.v. coverage of every step of the procession? Sorry, if I sounded selfish, he's in a better place now and probably why my heart and mind are with those who are not right now, in NOLA :( I can't depend on my government anymore, I'm more dependent on live news coverage.

Reagan died? It's the same thing. People tend to forget a person's sins after they die.

10. Everytime his name is mentioned, his role in the NOLA disaster as a |

regressive racist should be mentioned. I had no idea of the extent of this man's elitist philosophy until I read some articles yesterday which put it all together quite clearly.

Low ones, but she was struggling. She did look familiar, at first glance I thought it was Sandra Day O'Connor.

15. They have to show us the "other America" |
|
the one where a dead man gets their total attention. Meanwhile, here in "our America", dead are scattered everywhere, while rescuers are still trying to find and save some lives. The differences can't much more stark than this.

19. There is nothing the repugs do better than "eulogizing" their |
|
dead. They could take a sweat sock and make it a national hero with a state funeral and non-stop media coverage. And have.
Besides, if the camera is focused on a flag draped coffin of a Supreme Court Justice the "people" aren't worrying about flag draped coffins coming into Dover AFB, or of drowned and dying people on the Gulf Coast or that they are paying ungodly amounts for a gallon of gas.
This is Karl Rove's forté.

that the death of the man responsible for this entire mess has been totally eclipsed by a disaster made worse as a result of neo-con policies. I'm mourning for the victims of the disaster.
