What I posted was a correction to a misstatement of something that was said on Oprah's show today. The OP has since clarified that she heard this from a friend--didn't even see the show, it sounds like.

I'll say it again, loud and clear: The doctor did not speak in the present tense and did not state that this is what they are doing now. While it's not as exciting and likely to cause a lot of OMGs and WTFs, that's the truth. Also, no one, including me, said that they thought that people dying this way should be applauded.

But, yes, black tagged means that person is the last to get medical treatment. There is very little that can be done to save them with the resources available.

In emergency situations priorities have to be set. Sad but true. If it was my mother lying there without someone to comfort her in her last moments I'd be royally pissed. If I was the doctor trying to save a life, that hard decision would have to be made.

I'm not condoning bringing a dying person to a morgue. I'm simply stating that emotion has to be put aside sometimes in an emergency. Maybe that's what this doctor on Oprah was saying. I don't know.

I was a red cross volunteer for years in Florida.

Black tagged means that in a disaster, every patient is quickly triaged for level of injury, the tags are large about the size of your hand and color coded for the injury. They range from white to black, with different injurys and what needs there are. For example a red tag means the person needs blood like YESTERDAY and a yellow tag or green tag means they are no critcal. etc... some hospitals use different colors for different things.

A black tag is a fatal injury. But I can ASSURE YOU I've never heard such sickness as being taken to a morgue to die. Usually they are taken to another room AND someone sits with them.

This is NOT something that I've ever heard of before.
