Does anyone know about ACORN?
Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now

http://acorn.org/index.php?id=9673

I got an email from a union friend of mine asking for donations to this group. Has anyone dealt with them or have any thoughts on this group? Looks like it might be a good choice for donations.

2. I know that during the last election the Republicans accused them...
...of not registering the Republicans who gave them voter registration ppwk.

So they must be OK!

3. I Think They Are Good
In my community they work with refurbishing neighborhoods. They hold wonderful workshops which are very educational. We were thinking about buying and remodeling a home in the inner city here and found them to be a great resource. Hope that helped.

4. ACORN is a mixed bag. They were much more effective in the 70's
However, they have worked on gathering signatures for progressive causes in several states with some success. They are not terribly organized, however.

6. I worked for them in "91"
for a month, that was enough, they shoved a script in my hands and I was expected to raise x ammount of dollars in x ammount of time. From what I could tell, very little of the money raised actually went to the community.
The concept was very good at one time, from what I can tell the head office skims the cream and throws crumbs to the locals, I think I'd find another organization to give valuable resources to.
One more thing they gave me a bad check for the time I did put in.

7. Thanks everyone
Especially you, cat. I guess someone else will get my next donation.
