The Tidal Wave of Compassion
I heard Bush's new magic phrase mouthed on NPR this morning.

I'm sorry, George. That tidal wave sailed a week ago, and you weren't on it.

I just spent some time trying to explain, once again, to someone from England why the mayor could not be expected to handle the evacuation without federal help. This involved going into the decline of the cities since the Reagan Era and how every time they cut services at the federal level the city governments have to pick up the slack and by the time I was done I was so mad I was almost about to call George a eunuch again.

Tidal wave of compassion. This from a guy who wants to dismantle Social Security.
