Sen. Landrieu Threatens to 'Punch' President if He Keeps Hitting Local Response to Katrina

By E&P Staff

Published: September 04, 2005 5:40 PM ET

NEW YORK Senator Mary Landrieu, the Democrat of Louisiana (whose father was a mayor of New Orleans), appears to have finally found her voice after offering only cautious criticism of the federal relief effort in the hurriance catastrophe earlier in the week. Today she promised to literally "punch" anyone, "including the president," who contnued to question the local response to the tragedy, considering the gross federal misconduct.

Appearing on ABC's "The Week" TV program this morning, Senator Landrieu still appeared to be smarting from President Bush's comments, during his national radio address, that state and local bore a fair share of blame for the slow response. On a copter tour of the area, Landrieu said that if she heard any more criticism from federal officials, particularly about the evacuation of New Orleans, she might lose control.

"If one person criticizes them or says one more thing - including the president of the United States - he will hear from me," she said on the ABC program. "One more word about it after this show airs and I might likely have to punch him. Literally."

She burst into tears as she looked at a broken levee. "The President could have funded it," she said. "He cut it out of the budget. Is that the most pitiful sight you have ever seen in your life? One little crane."

She also referred angrily to comments Bush had made Friday at the New Orleans airport about the fun he had in her city in his younger days.

"Our infrastructure is devastated, lives have been shattered," Landrieu said. "Would the president please stop taking photo-ops?"

1. I'd pay money- big money- to see that.

I bet if the ounch was shown on pay-per-view, you'd get an international audience. Trillions upon trillions would be raised for Katrina survivors. And finally, for once, the shrub would do some good for the world.

And quite honestly, I could die a happy woman.

24. I'm in for a thousand bucks. To be donated to help people, of course.
I'll have the check written before he gets up off the floor.

Though somebody ought to tell her that an open-handed slap - especially from a woman - is MUCH more humiliating to a man than a punch.

4. This comment makes me so sad. Bush is an ANIMAL.
I heard his live comments about how much "fun" he had in New Orleans in his younger days....."TOO MUCH FUN, PROBABLY"

That comment is completely inappropriate for "PRESIDENT" to make. Gees.....does everyone in his family HAVE TO make inappropriate comments?

Every member of the Bush family is a moron.

19. That family
is the most self centered, inaapropriate, bigoted, classless family ever to grace the high offices of this country.

It has been said here that if GWB didn't have his family name to support him, he would be a bad used car salesman in Bumfuck OK. I really believe that is true.

I pointed out yesterday how ironic it is that he holds the highest executive postion in this country, executive being the 'law enforcing' branch of government. However he wouldn't even be able to get a job as an everyday street cop in real life due to his record, his IQ and his past drug/alcohol use. Don't believe me, ask anyone who has tried to be a cop that has any kind of past...they GRILL you about it...not to mention the polygraph and the psyche test.

Where are the standards? Why aren't these people held accountable? what are we going to do when we have a yam shortage???? :o

21. His time in NO was when he was on detached duty from TANG,
and he never reported in at the LANG as he was supposed to - just hung around at the campaign headquarters for the politico he was "helping" when he wasn't partying.

He was boasting about the time during which he was AWOL.

13. This is what it takes. Our enemy is belligerent.
Stubborn and ignorant is a very dangerous combination. Even Jesus pulled out a whip when he saw what was totally unacceptable. I always criticized Malcolm X for saying "Stop singing and start swinging.". But, the republicans have given us no other choice. They must step away from the mound. They're time is up, and so is the country's patience. They've ruined every single thing they have come near. It's the same old story as the Nazis. Intimidation, fear, collection of power. Now go away. Go back to your dark corners. Weeding time is here.

Whether or not she actually does swing on King Dumbass** someday, she has already humilated him in public. Did you see the helicopter tour on Snuffleupagus Sunday? Even while she was breaking up over seeing the ruins of her family's fishing camp (the La. version of a country weekend retreat) she still found some time to tell ** exactly what she thought of him and his sorry-ass Bush**-league efforts.

20. It's What The Bastard Needs.
I'd been saying it to my friends for all year. I usually get uneasy stares right before they slowly back away from me just in case Homeland Security has bad aim; but I'd been saying it since about October '04: Bush doesn't just need to be beaten at the polls, he literally needs the shit kicked out of him. A foot dead in his ass. I've concluded that it's the only thing he'll understand. It just won't happen because he just has so much damned protection around him and he knows it.

As for Homeland Security, I no longer give a shit how they feel. The Katrina disaster has shown me they can't control a go-kart at an Indiana county fair, much less the aftermath of a disaster in a major U.S. port. Need to find someone who's defaulted on a student loan or is behind on credit card payments? Call DHS. Wanna force a bunch of fugitive Democratic state senators to show up at a legislative session? DHS has got it covered. But preparing and protecting the people in case of disaster seems to be a bit of an issue for the very government agency DESIGNED to prepare and protect the people... :eyes:

We could have solved this problem LAST YEAR, folks. But I guess it's all cool as long as those damn gays don't get married... :grr: :nuke:
