MAYOR NAGIN: "New Orleans is a party town - get over it!"
Mayor Nagin's press conference is on both CNN and FOX now. He was replying to criticism for sending cycles of off-duty NOLA police and firemen to Las Vegas.

Roughly paraphrased:

"Some people have expressed criticism over our sending these people to 'party towns', like Las Vegas. Well, New Olreans is a party town - get over it! These people deserve a break."

This guy rocks.

1. Yea, when his officers go nuts because no one ever relieved them I want
to hear all the objections of the assholes who have never been through something like this. These cops were in a war. No matter how you slice it they got a full taste of the chaos that war is. Most them watched people die when they knew it was their duty to do something. Some were shot at. They had fellow police officers for whatever the reason was desert them when they needed them most.

2. anyone criticizing this
should get their asses down to NOLA and be assigned the task of bagging the bodies of the dead, non-stop, until every last one is accounted for- then they can decline an offer of a break to funtown.

What judgemental, callous bastards.

Nagin CARES- and has lived this hell through with his people... not from a cushy distance.- i fear for HIS emotional well-being.

He's had a lot on his shoulders, and in his lap.

and "he done good" in my view.

3. Not Only Should They Go Where Ever They Want, The Feds Should Pay For It!
These guys deserve it. They saved more lives than our entire federal government combined. We owe these people a debt of thanks.

I'll personally pay for the strippers for the big NOLA cop blow out!

Let the feds pay the travel, rooms, food and drinks!

4. at least two officers have already killed themselves
Sending people out of town on rotating shifts to prevent burnout is CHEAP, by comparison.

5. Can we have some in Waikiki, please?
We came through for some of the FDNY firefighters after 9/11, after all.
