He will be done in January 2009. He might have subterranean poll numbers by then, but he'll be around to finish his term. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it, but I suspect he'll survive to the end of his term.

People will/are demanding accountability.

16. How many times have you seen
so many republicans waking up to reality? How many times before now have you seen the broadcast media being critical of Bloody George? We're all aware that media has been a major problem with their cheerleading for the cabal. Some are still doing it, but facts are now getting out to the point that the sheeple are beginning to see that the emperor has no clothes. If he isn't done, then at least he has been minimized.

23. Way too many times -- if this is not it, it will not come....
and, frankly, I'm not hopeful. Combine a cabal willing to do anything to keep power not only for themselves, but for those of their ideology from now on, and an under-educated public, and this is what you get. The only hope I have in this enormous human tragedy, this diabolical failure of governance, is the refusal of some of the press, and not just the print press, to go along.

The list goes on, but * keeps his job. He will now appoint at least two and possibly 3 SCOTUS justices. He never has to run for election again so he really is not too concerned about his poll numbers. We are screwed.

35. There are more differences than that
The media was more independent, less fragmented, less infotainment-oriented, less corporatized, and along the lines of what you said, people could focus on three networks competing with each other for only a half hour a night.

Plus, the best reason is it is different: We are much more jaded, with lower expectations now, as a result of how Watergate poisoned the well. It infected us, then we got rid of the pathogen, but the host built up an immunity which was strengthened by Iran-Contra and the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine.

39. That's very true. When I think of how no editor today could do what
Bradlee did then because the Post was independently owned, it makes me sick. I think a lot of reporters would love to dig deeper into stories, but their editors/corporate hacks won't allow it.

....but I personally think he is NOT going to finish out his term.
Whether that means he's done tomorrow, next month, next year, or on the day before the next president is inaugurated....at some point, he will be brought down. But he WON'T be brought down without the help of the right. Just like Nixon.

32. Bush isn't done... yet.
But we have to put things into perspective. This was the man who had a 90% approval rating once for sitting back while four planes were hijacked and thousands of Americans died. The mere fact that he's took on such a huge hit from the Katrina disaster is big in itself. His shields are weakening, and he keeps taking on damage from every direction.

The House of Bush hasn't fallen yet, but the foundation isn't what it used to be.

37. two points
1. The playing field has just shifted dramatically. The equation has changed. There can be no successful cover-up. Bush has made many powerful vociferous enemies this time, and the Neocons can't threaten, bribe, bullshit or smear all of them.

2. If we want to bring down the illegal Bush government, the American people (we) must now go into relentless attack mode politically.

They aren't going down by the law of gravity alone. Heard "Bush is done/toast" so many times it's depressing. But these people aren't invulnerable. They're weaker than they look. I say go for the arteries now and keep slashing (politically of course).

:-)

44. We need to question their assumptions that got us here
the role of government is first of all to protect its citizens...I believe. Let's have a discussion about privatization, how it's worked, about no-bid contracts, about the difference between seeking the common good and selfishness. (Was FEMA mismanaged or just a bad idea- we must differentiate, they won't.)
THIS IS HOW WE CAN WIN!
Question their premises. The entire country has seen how their ideas work-- the rich get richer and the poor get dead. Can you imagine them revisiting health care? Oh my God...

I never responded to those statements, because I didn't believe it for a second but I felt that it gave people hope.

But we need to think practically now, instead of dealing in pipe-dreams about an impeachment that will never happen.

2006 is our chance at payback. Bush's numbers were dreadful before Katrina, the sentiment toward the repukes will be even worse now. Our chance to take back seats lost is this election cycle, we need to get our talking points nailed around this issue to hammer home before people vote and to integrate into campaigns.
