"Maybe Katrina was punishment for what Bush did to Iraq," |
|
World stunned at Bush's stupidity
The world has watched amazed as the planet's only superpower struggles with Katrina, with some saying the chaos has exposed flaws and deep divisions in American society.
World leaders and ordinary citizens have expressed sympathy but many have also been shocked by the images of disorder beamed around the world -- looters roaming the debris-strewn streets and thousands of people waiting for Bush to pull his head out of his ass.
"Anarchy in the USA" declared Britain's best-selling newspaper The Sun.
"Apocalypse Now" headlined Germany's Handelsblatt daily.
Many newspapers highlighted criticism of Der Monkey. They compared the sputtering relief effort with the massive resources poured into Bush's bloody war.
"A modern metropolis sinking in water and into anarchy -- it is a really cruel spectacle for a champion of security like Bush," France'sLiberation newspaper said.
A lady in South Korea said it may have been no accident the U.S. was hit. "Maybe it was punishment for what Bush did to Iraq," said the woman. "A lot of the people I work with think this way."

That would make sense only if those most hurt by Hurricane Katrina weren't those most likely to oppose Bush's policies..

4. eh, this is the same as their logic |
|
That hurricanes are some kind of cosmic retribution for the choices people make? It's the same silly superstition some Christians engage in.
I'm sure the families of the dead are thrilled with the idea that their loved ones died so some god could make a point about world politics.

in Texas on the Crawford Ranch while Bush was in it. Why would God punish a bunch of poor people? Sometimes I wonder at this kind of logic. I know there will be some sort of karma coming Bush's way for what he has done, but this isn't it.

Hurricanes are random events... Responses are not....
If God was currently in the retribution business he would have destroyed just about every nation on earth at one time or another...

17. I believe in cause and effect |
|
But my two cent opinion here is that the universe isn't a moral agent. The disaster in NO was the result of weather patterns, criminal negligence, incompetence, lack of local support and funding, lack of national leadership, and probably hundreds of other identifiable and correctable factors.
Frankly I'm as tired of old school fundie superstition (retribution)as I am of new age formulaic superstition (karma chewing gum). Jesus isn't coming and the universe doesn't punish bad people. We're responsible for our lives, our nation and our government. It serves no purpose to moralize this way.
I do think the idea of karma is a useful seed for personal reflection on the effects one's own actions, but to give meaning to impossibly complex events like the Katrina disaster -- well I think it ultimately leads us away from collective self-scrutiny and positive corrective action.

that someone actually said that. I'm not surprised it came from another country. You don't usually hear that sort of stuff on the anti-Bush side because our side has evolved beyond "the Gods are angry and want to punish us" stage of evolution.
However, I had an idea after hearing about the supposed "fetus" in the satellite image of Katrina. (As if one couldn't see an image of just about anything in a satellite image of a hurricane if one looked long enough.) My idea is to get a satellite image of Katrina that looks like a big peace sign and send it around the internet saying "God is punishing us for starting wars without just cause!" LOL.
