Pets Need Your Help--Call General Honore!!!
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 02:38 PM by Kristi1696
Almost everybody has been evacuated from NO. Many of the people who have stay are being DENIED EVACUATION because they are unwilling to leave their pets. Rescue boats are coming back EMPTY rather than accomodating these people and their animals.

Some animal rescue teams have been allowed in the city, but many others have been caught up in red tape.

New Orleans has literally been left to the dogs, now it's their turn to be saved!

5. Saving lives
I believe the objective is to obtain permission for all the mobilized animal disaster rescue teams waiting to get in the area to rescue the animals left behind. While waiting to get in, they have set up emergency shelters, lost & found websites are up and there is a database with photos and descriptions being set up now. These are disaster trained experienced volunteers who just need a green light to save animals lives before it's too late.

I just sent this message:
I've heard many reports of animals being excluded from rescue efforts. PLEASE save them! Many people love their pets like family; leaving them behind is going to cause severe psychological damage. Also, we owe it to our pets -- we have a responsibilty towards caring for them. All you have to do is gather them with their owners, and if they can't go to shelters with their owners, hand them over to the Humane Society or SPCA. They will take care of the animals till owners can reclaim them.

Your efforts are very deeply appreciated, thank you for doing such a fantastic job!

8. It's a tragedy ...

It's a tragedy, in an emergency when there isn't enough food, water and sanitation for people, pets take the backseat.

Many will be shot because they have been abandoned and they will now do what comes natural. They will pack up and start looking for food. They will become safety as well as health risks as they pick through garbage and inevitably ... corpses.

Personally, I would probably make a raft out pieces of my roof and leave the city on foot before abandoning my dog.
