reconstruction contracts. I have been led inevitably to this conclusion by recent events including price gouging at the pumps, even before the hurricane hit, and Halliburton's latest boondoggle bonanza.

I just don't understand the apathy among this country's citizens when such blatant corruption is taking place, resulting in tens of thousands of lost American lives, diminished national security, and destruction of our economy.

Bringing food water and medicine would not affect either gas prices or Halliburton's contracts. But those do seem to be the only things that they really care about.

Umm, aren't there laws governing a bidding process for contracts? How does Halliburton keep getting "no-bid" contracts?

And yes, I agree about the apathy. It really seems that this government has declared itself "above the law" and that those of us who are outraged are also powerless.

A few billion would have fixed it all up, but that money has gone elsewhere. I see the whole thing as a case of neglect.

* let the situation deteriorate to its present state of total disaster. The government is going to be spending much MORE money than it would have spent had they intervened earlier. But, allowing the maximum damage to occur gave oil companies an excuse to gouge, and made it possible for the bushies to award a massive reconstruction contract to Halliburton. Don't you find it suspicious that Halliburton has ALREADY been awarded the contract? No bidding took place, again (ala Iraq), and the contract was given Halliburton within a few days following the hurricane.
