Senator on CSPAN now - will introduce bill to seize profits from Big Oil
Byron Dorgan (D), North Dakota

http://dorgan.senate.gov/

Currently on the floor of the US Senate advocating taking the 'extra' profits from Big Oil and putting into a relief fund for hurricane survivors. And he even has a Perot-esque chart!

He will introduce this bill tomorrow.

1. yes! This is an election issue for '06! "My opponent voted for Big
Oil, voted to let them price gouge you at the pumps, voted to let them suck money straight out of your community!," etc.

Which any Dem that cares to will be able to say of any Repub., since they'll all reliably vote "no" on such an "extreme," citizen-benefiting measure.

6. Appropriate. Actually, they shouldn't be profiteering off war, either.
We really need a bill prohibiting war-profiteering!!!

DORGAN CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION OF GASOLINE PRICES AND WANTS WINDFALL PROFITS TAX ON OIL COMPANIES

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Byron L. Dorgan (D-ND) Thursday called on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to begin the formal investigation of oil and gas prices that is required in the new energy bill just signed by President Bush.

Dorgan, who authored the provision that requires an investigation, said current oil and gasoline prices are not the product of an open and transparent market. There is plenty of room and opportunity for consumers to be gouged by oil companies wanting to cash in on OPEC price fixing, he said.

...

“The current dramatic spikes in gasoline prices are forcing consumers to pay higher prices and are providing fat profits for the major oil companies and the OPEC countries,” Dorgan said.

...

“This has nothing to do with a free market,” Dorgan maintained. “It is about the OPEC countries and the major oil companies profiting in a controlled market that rewards them and penalizes our consumers.”

... /<snip>

He also said he saw a bumper sticker the other day that said 'I fought the gas war and the gas won'.

10. This is a great start!
Now, when we take it back in 06, let's nationalize oil, and use the profits to fund health care, mass transit, and education.

Oh, yeah, and let's get our military back to defending our shores, and with the budget surplus, we can start paying down our national debt.

15. never happen
without a revolution. They own the government. And a revolution won't happen until conditions are so bad for so many that the world view of American consumerists society is shattered. And then it will be too late, welcome to Thunder Dome. Hope the box turtles make it.

20. Why don't they introduce a bill that bans Halliburton and any other
company connected to the band of thieves in the WH from getting any more government contracts, especially with no-bids.
