2. The whole show was a political statement
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 04:45 PM by Melodybe
They are our fellow citizens, how could we let this happen.

They also asked if this were an affluent white community would this be allowed.

13. others helping her - said some potent remarks
like blatant disregard

the gal (I think she is asian) - she did the special in Africa of the women being raped in a really dangerous area - anyway she said she could not help but think if this had been a white affluent area how it would be different

Nate - I believe said it was blatant disregard

when they went back to oprah - she repeated that last phrase

Great to see those helping her
Jamie Fox
Faith Hill
Mattew McConaughy
Nate
gal whose name I don't remember

tomorrow
Julia Roberts
Lisa Prezley
Chris Rock
and others

She made them let her into the dome - they said it was unsafe - she kept insisting saying but people were living here - I have to see it
Mayor Nagin got her in for 5 minutes - they brought more soliders before she could go in

really tearful show - she did a great job with pictures and presentation to say without words what we all know but the rest of the world might have not known or if they had doubts shouldn't now

Nate having been in the tsunami was a good one
Oh and a doctor who said even with all he has been around - he was not prepared - that's right I think he was talking about blatant disregard
Covered up several dead bodies and talked about the physical death afterwards - very informative - they showed dead bodies in the water floating

Nate helped save three dogs - one guy was so tearful and thankful - he was not going to leave because they would not let him take his dog - Nate took care of it

Really great show

26. Lisa Ling is the Asian woman.
:)

She kind of gets on my nerves, plus she voted for Nader in 2000, but she's alright and her heart is in the right place.

like the dead bodies floating in the streets and the LIVE people left in the morgue to die.

14. Because, no matter what, they are still complicit for maintaining the lie
over the last 4 years that George Bush's competent governance keeps this nation safe and that Americans are more secure with Bush in office.

This lie has been painstakingly nurtured since 9-11 by the corporate media, and the REAL Katrina pictures only expose that lie to degrees they are incapable of dealing with.

29. Yep.
People they deemed "too sick" were being sent to the morgue to "die in peace". I guess "in peace" means all alone surrounded by even more dead bodies than outside the superdome.

11. Oprah is just getting started because she understands
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 04:52 PM by Pithy Cherub
first you have to connect reality with America. Second, then start to show the results of past actions. She is strategically bringing America along on the journey to recover and rediscover our humanity. This is an open Lady Oprah invitation for America to examine itself and discuss class and race.

Blessings Oprah:loveya:!

16. Question about the Superdome
They cautioned her not to go in, and warned her of dogs and thugs still in there. She obviously did not let the cameras show everything. We knew of the bodies and smells and filth. WHAT ARE THEY NOT TELLING US?? That part didn't seem congruent unless I missed something. Were thugs and dogs locked up in there? I didn't get it.
I guarantee you, folks, this would NOT have happened in Florida! I'm so sick at my stomach, so ashamed and SO DAMN MAD!!

30. Well, they have to worry about the FCC to a point.
I'm not sure of the exact rules, but I'm sure theres a limit the FCC places on showing images of death and blood and gore. Maybe that was stopping her.

Or maybe it was something else. Just putting out ideas.

affluent and white, would they have been put in a dark, dirty place...

Damn, the quote went by too fast. But it made its point.
