I was hoping Oprah would give these people a spectacular gift
and she did.
She gave them a sense of hope. A sense that they aren't alone.
Our government may have abandoned these people...but Oprah didn't.
A good dose of truth is pretty awe inspiring.:)

1. She also gave them
a gift that I think will, over time, become even more precious - visibility.

During the hurricane, we saw the "pretty" pictures of the Superdome. The pictures she showed were most definitely *NOT* pretty.

2. I don't know the protocol for something like this, but...
If you are interested in a blow-by-blow, and an ongoing conversation about Oprah's "political aspirations" (she has none, sadly...), go here and read this thread!:

It's a short diary with a long thread of comments, but the running commentary is great, and the responses are so varied. I found it fascinating!

4. She also gave them a voice.
Hers, joined with theirs. Powerful.

Haven't watched her program in years, but did today (most of it anyway, some I missed due to breakdown) and will again tomorrow.

5. She gave hope and let THEM reclaim their dignity....

I was skeptical, though I respect Oprah, when I heard she was shooting a show in the Astrodome. But, I freely admit I was wrong. My admiration for her and for each of those courageous people has only increased 1000x fold--these people who have lost so much, but retain so much grace. I am in awe.

7. Same here. I watched today and will again tomorrow.
I have no words to decribe how I feel about all she was able to show.
I am thankful to all of those who are helping and to Oprah for putting out the call for help.

Bless all of the volunteers who have been there the whole time and are risking health problems themselves to help the people of NOLA and other areas.
