Barbara Bush in favor of massive public housing effort
I think Barbara Bush's idea that public buildings and stadia be used for the homeless may have some merit. When she said that the people in the Astrodome "were underpriveleged before so this has worked well for them" it points out the obvious. When a sports team needs a new home then a community will move heaven and earth to get one built so lets use that same spirit to eradicate homelessness?

That's what she was saying right?

Wasn't she saying that we should use public facilities to house the nations homeless? She probably wouldn't go so far as to have us us eminent domain to build low income housing like her son used eminent domain to build a baseball stadium but certainly using the Ranger's ballpark for housing the nations poor makes better use of it than the Ranger's pitching staff does.

I can see her movement really gathering steam. Locally, rather than using San Francisco's Cow Palace for yet another lame White Snake concert we can open it to our teeming homeless population.

Who knew that the president's mommy was really an olf lefty underneath.

6. You're being sarcastic about Momma Bush, aren't you?
Here's the whole quote from her; it's Not altruistic in the slightest:

"What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overhwlemed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle) -- this is working very well for them."

She's a Worm.

9. The glass is half full
unfortunately its half full of water contaminated by human waste but we have to look at the bright side.

Anybody else think Barbara Bush would be a good contestant on "The Swan"?

11. Isn't the White House a public facility?
How about the Governor's mansion in Fla.? (this came up re: Noelle's drug problem, since non-Bush** public housing residents are routinely evicted for drug violations)

Who'da thunk it? Babs is right! Let's throw public facilities open to the evacuees!

12. Imagine how many could be housed in the White House!
And anything that prevents another White Snake concert would be a huge humanitarian gesture...

14. They should offer up one of their homes
I'll bet Kennebunkport could house six families just in the servants quarters.

Maybe it would be a fun parctiacl joke to ask MSM members if the rumors are true that Barbara offered one of her homes to evacuees.

18. AS I understand it, Texas has NO projects at all - they use a voucher
system instead. No concentration of the poor. Spread them out so no one see them. Depends on local land owners to accept the vouchers rather than build any housing on tax dollars. Now, I'm not saying that projects are great, by any stretch of the imagination. But some private housing is better than none right now. Aren't there any empty bases down there with private spaces that can be used for now?

17. What about Crawford?
I hear there's a ranch there that's not being put to very good use. Yeah, I think that George wants to offer up his "ranch" to build permanent housing for some of those evacuees.
