Please convince me they won't get away with this.... |
|
..please convince me the spin won't work. Please convince me that the Rove Slime Machine will not work this time. I really want to hear words of encouragement. Because I don't think I can deal not only with the depressive thought of what happened to tens of thousands of people in America, but also the notion that Bush and his nazi slime troops are going to succeed in spinning this as the fault of local authorities and that they tried their level best to do what needed to be done but were thwarted along the way.
Please convince me because I'm starting to read too much uncorrected and unclarified regurgitation of talking points in articles. I'm starting to see it on tv news. I'm starting to hear co-workers talking about it in those terms. And I'm not someone who will talk politics at work for fear of the ramifications. And it killed me to listen to these two people at work today (not talking to me but a few cubes over) recite the talking points.
I just can't deal right now with the thought that they are going to succeed yet again to sink this country further into the abyss and have people believing their spin.

but I do have a feeling it won't work this time because 20,000 people dying (or whatever the number ultimately is) can't be spun. They fucked up badly this time (pardon my French).

7. That's why we'll NEVER know the real death toll. |
|
That information will be somehow "impossible to calculate" or "unknown" or "estimated". Estimated low, I should add.

.. that any slimespin occurs over 40,000 dead bodies and 250,000 displaced and mistreated poor.
It's going to stinks really really bad.
It's one thing to slime a politician or a party, but poor storm survivors and their dead loved ones... I don't think so.
I don't think it will work. Not that bushrove won't try, though.
Between them, they must make up at least 90% of the world's slime.

10. Starting to think the self-centeredness of people dooms this country |
|
I work for an extremely liberal organization. Today, everyone was asking everyone else how their holiday weekend was. Everyone, to a person, replied GREAT!!!!
Truthfully, I'm stunned that over the weekend every single one of them buried their heads in the sand because it was too much of a downer to pay attention to what was happening in New Orleans and across the Gulf Coast.
One or two agree with Dennis Hastert that there's no reason to rebuild New Orleans.
Everyone blames Gov. Blanco, repeating the meme that she didn't ask for help. Some didn't even know about the horror of the Domes. Almost everyone thought everything is peachy keen now and everyone's been evacuated.
Most didn't know the body count is expected to be between 10,000 and 40,000.
No one is concerned about how they might be able to donate or help.
Some expressed that even though they can't stand Bush, there's no way the government could have prepared for a disaster of this magnitude....
Where to start with people who have NO CLUE?
As long as what Bush does doesn't land at their own doorsteps, these supposedly very liberal people are willing to deliberately look away from what's happening in this country.
I'm former Air Force. Today, I asked myself, for what did I think I was serving my country? For what did I serve? To protect this kind of deliberate apathy?

11. It's not happening quickly |
|
but it's happening. Changing the opinion of an entire country is not like flipping a switch. It takes time and pressure to move public opinion of that mass. Normally a sea change like what is happening now does not happen. But Chimpy has messed things up so badly that he's forcing this sea change on himself and his administration.
Don't forget, there's more pressure coming. Cindy Sheehan has not gone away. John Conyers Jr. has not gone away. Air America Radio has not gone away. Patrick Fitzgerald has not gone away.
Most importantly, Karl Rove has not gone away. This is crucial because if this *is* the sea change it appears to be more Rovian tactics may very well have the opposite effect that he desires. Rove's gone to the well so many times that it is drying up on him. Public opinion says that people are not buying it. But it may take some more time. Chimpy took a huge hit this last week.

12. I think we have to COMMIT to NOT letting them get by with it.... |

The least we can do for all those whose lives were so readily sacrificed both in the aftermath of Katrina, and in Iraq.
