Have they started the "presales" yet for the new gated resort community
on the site of where New Orleans used to stand.

I am so afraid that when they build back they will only build condos and big mansions and not provide housing for lower income folks that need to return to their home town.

1. Disney is getting the contract
Look for "hard hitting" reports on NOLA on ABC soon.

4. Hadn't thought about Disney - they will rebuild the Quarter
in plastic. Do you think the light show will be at midnight or 2:00 am ?

12. They have this hotel at Disney World
It's called the French Quarter. New Orleans themed except it's all wholesome and sanitized. That's what I imagine the new New Orleans will be like--a sanitized, yuppified Mardi-Gras theme park with Cajun-like food.

2. I think the landowners for New Corpleans should be tracked
Is that info still public info or does * protect it for the wealthy?

9. Search is down, but the records of who owns what in New Orleans
may have been destroyed.

3. Bingo. Eminent domain at its best.... The less who stay, the less
who can contest the taking of their homes/lives.

8. Stay?
They'll have no choice. They'll be kicking them out before the week is out. Then, they'll have the whole damned city. As soon as they drain it, the bulldozers will arrive.

5. With a Polystyrene French Quarter Replica.
And don't forget the golf courses. All that land. They need to make the property desireable and expensive. So build lots of golf courses so that exclusivity (and high price) is preserved. High rise condos are good, too, especially on the water.

11. I am sure our tax dollars will rebuild the levees and pumps to
withstand a cat 7 storm first so that rich people won't get wet. Also, the developers will get hugh federal grants because they will be rebuilding a "historic" area.

Seriously, I would love to know how many of those small homes I have been seeing on tv are investor owned vs. occupant owned.

6. First, they'll steal relief money to build the resort communities. Then
they'll use the "free market" to keep out the poor. It's the American way.

10. Odd item on my local news.
The reporter said that survivors are having a hard time finding housing because the prices of real estate have gone up.

:wtf:

13. It's Disaster Capitalism
They'll have all that cleared off beachfront to build on.

I think the Gulf coast should be turned into a National Park - but that seems to be a minority viewpoint.
