I was at Chapter this morning (turned in my weekend DAT reports). We still don't know the breakdown (San Diego, LA, San Jose, San Francisco) - or the mode (bus, plane).

8. I worked the telephone banks. The calls were coming in like crazy.

I doubt that I had 30 secs. between calls. It was split into 2 kinds of call centers - national and local. I worked the local. People were calling in wanting to volunteer, donate, share their homes. It was truly heart-warming.

AUSTIN - While the airlift of Hurricane Katrina refugees out of Texas appeared to be on hold, plans to move some to cruise ships in Galveston have also been postponed.

Then federal authorities took over the operation (Unified Command) and by Monday planes still weren't taking off. At the same time, for the first time in days, there were no buses or planes in the official evacuation effort carrying evacuees into Texas, the governor's office said.

It was unclear when any flights might actually leave.

FMEA says: Federal Emergency Management Agency spokesman Dean Cushman said Monday, "We are not coordinating it as of right now."

(wingnut mode) "God, look at that! They're gonna move those people to cruise ships, CRUISE SHIPS, for God's sake! Why, I've worked 24/7 for the past twenty million years, with never, ever a break, and I've NEVER gotten to be on a cruise ship! Geez, do they have to give those people everything? They never work or suffer for it, and they're always given everything, do they have to always spoil them like that? Next thing you know, they'll be serving them caviar in the captain's quarters.
