Now it's TWICE the size of EUROPE
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 08:11 PM by tedzbear
First, Chertoff claimed the disaster(s) was the size of Great Britain and now Sen. Ted Stevens says it's 2x size of EUROPE!

After a senators-only briefing by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and other Cabinet members, Sen. Charles E. Schumer (news, bio, voting record) said lawmakers weren't getting their questions answered.

"What people up there want to know, Democrats and Republicans, is what is the challenge ahead, how are you handling that and what did you do wrong in the past," said Schumer, D-N.Y.

Sen. Ted Stevens (news, bio, voting record), R-Alaska, said the administration is "getting a bad rap" for the emergency response.

"This is the largest disaster in the history of the United States, over an area twice the size of Europe," Stevens said. "People have to understand this is a big, big problem."

Stevens is bullshitting us (and probably worried about losing the funding for his mult-million dollar bridge to nowhere).

3. A small area of coastline is the primary problem, though...
Baton Rouge and Jackson, Mississippi have some problems with damage, but their problems pale in comparison to NO, Biloxi, Gulfport, and the smaller towns along the coast.

I can understand if some families in Jackson have to live without phone service or power for a while longer than usual, but the problems lie in the response time where it was truly an emergency.

9. What an ass. Europe is already larger than the entire USA.
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 08:18 PM by KamaAina
Europe: 4,140,000 sq. mi.; USA: 3,537,000 sq. mi. So "twice the size of Europe" would be more than twice the size of the entire United States.

What an ass. This is the guy who got both our Senators to roll over and play dead on ANWR so that he would support our "Akaka Bill" for Hawaiian recognition -- which has once again stalled in the repuke Senate!!

edit: caps

GODDAMNIT I am tired of these corrupt assholes getting away with whatever they like just because they're the Majority in Congress -- look at what they've done, JUST LOOK!!! How much more of a fucking clue does America need??? "This was too big to handle"....Do people hear this BS? Do the disastrous results of the Republican power trip need to come knocking personally on every front door in this nation before everyone gets it?? BushCo and the Right lie for a living and aren't about protecting anyone but THEMSELVES!!
