Winds of change, I really think. Just one observation today.
OK is one of the reddest of the reds. And even the students at OU reflect this, though the campus is, I'd say, more blue than red. I was so discouraged today and just about crying over the apparent lack of concern over "the clusterf***k." I was just sick. So when I heard the name "Bush" in conversation behind me, I immediately started listening in even though I was reluctant to, afraid of what I might hear.

Anyway, here's part of the convo between two white, well-dressed, clean-cut (probably Repub due to the following conversation)young men. I missed some of it, but here's what I heard:

Young Man 1: ...see, that's the thing. I really don't think they know what they're doing.

Young Man 2: yeah I know..but...(unintelligible mumbling for about a sentence or so)

Young Man 1: I know, I know, I LIKE (or liked, I couldn't hear that well) George Bush, but I don't know. I kind of think maybe Kerry would have handled this a lot better. I kind of wish...(unintelligible) or DEAN! At least....(unintelligible) some BALLS!

Young Man 2: (unintelligible mumbling)...9/11?

Young Man 1: Yeah, but now it's...mumble mumble...and they STILL don't know how to deal with this kind of shit? You know, man?

Young Man 2: yeah.

Then I left. That was SO good to hear today.

3. Something similar at work today --
eavesdropping over the cubicle walls. A couple of guys ranting about how they couldn't stand Bush, making fun of his verbal gaffes and general stupidity. I was pleasantly surprised; my co-workers are mostly middle-class white guys, many with military experience. Maybe some people are waking up.

4. I overheard an interesting conversation when I was at the hair salon
today. I live in a very conservative PA county. The woman getting her hair done mentioned the money for floor control being diverted to Iraq and said she thought a Dem would win in 2008 because Bush made such a mess of this. The stylist agreed.

5. If a Category 5 screw up followed by Category 5 outrage does
lead to a change in government, hopefully all the way to the top, our system has failed. Murderous neglect and lethal incompetence cannot pass without a complete replacement of our failed leadership.
