AP Story on MSNBC.com: Bush struggles to find the right tone on disaster
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9232927/

Speed and tone of comments have called for day-to-day damage control

WASHINGTON - The Bush White House is known for its ability to remain in control of its message and image, sliding out of crises with barely a scratch. Not this time.

The administration on Tuesday struggled to deflect calls for an accounting of who was responsible for a hurricane response that even Bush acknowledged was inadequate. There were increasing calls for the resignation or firing of Michael Brown, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

“I think it’s clear we’re in damage control now,” said Norman Ornstein, political analyst at the American Enterprise Institute think tank.

7. Their chosen tone is their usual one--to blame everyone else
I'd call that a childish tone, if that weren't such an insult to children.

8. The f**king TONE? The f**king tone. That says it right there. Bubba
had his faults and still does, but you know what? He NEVER had to worry about "his tone" because he ACTUALLY CARED!

Evil, MFer bastard. Rot in hell, Shrub.

14. When Bill spoke yesterday
I cried. He spoke so beautifully and compassionately. He had a frickin' PLAN and he's not even president -- although, he will always be my president.

Remember when the POTUS was smarter than you?

23. I missed him yesterday, but I know what you are saying. That man
was elected and re-elected (and sorely missed) because he WAS a true representative of the people.

Remember that comedy routine mocking Bush and comparing him to Bill about "kissing black babies?" How Bill didn't even hesitate and LOVED those babies? THAT is truth. I'm not happy with Bill for his latest alignments, but I do miss those days. An Arkansas redneck who doesn't have a racist bone in his body.

P.S.
NO OFFENSE TO THOSE FROM ARKANSAS! I mean, he is FROM ARKANSAS and a verified REDNECK, who is NOT RACIST, and that is against the grain. I come from a long line of NM rednecks and live in OK right now, so when I say "redneck" it's not an ignorant stereotype, I promise. Some of my best friends are rednecks. Heh heh.

10. Well, it's hard to come up with the right response when you DON'T CARE..
..about the 'little people.' When you sit around the White House and don't give a crap about thousands of Americans dying, it's kind of hard to come up with a message that Americans will accept.

18. You beat me to it
same thought...a HUMAN BEING woudlnt' have to struggle...every HUMAN BEING I know is sick, sick over this. And he has to struggle...I caught a glimpse of him on TV coming off the plane first visit to NO...was he smiling and waving as I remember or did I paste that on my memory? That rolling swagger, king of the hill....might as well have been squealing ME ME ME LOOK AT ME....

ah...i'll stop now...don't usually allow myself to do this....it's all just too much, I can't imagine how real people are going to cope with what is likely to emerge over the next few days...

Not even My Pet Goat will get them out of this one. How about sending them a Hammond road atlas, telling them to pick a direction and keep going.

17. *, try this tone: You give a speech and declare yourself not an
incompetent asshole. Sometime later you resign and smirk one last smirk from the door of the helicopter as it flies you off the White House lawn. That tone'd work for me.

20. I'll tell him the proper fucking tone.
Dear Mr. Chimpy McCuckooBananas,

The proper tone to take in this affair is to stay the fuck away from the disaster area so that local people can do their work. The proper tone to take is to stop trying to blame your possibly criminal incompetence on the very people who are actually working to save lives. The proper tone to take is to accept your responsibility in this sad affair and tender your resignation. That would be the only proper tone for you to take, you miserable piece of shit.

Thank you.
