We HAVE to get RID OF the VOTE EATING MACHINES
Background: Congress passed HAVA (Help America Vote Act) that was designed to help the disabled vote. THE RESULT WAS there was language in the act that requires DRE's to COUNT our votes. For those of you that are not aware --

Republican contributors of BUSH own these machines that are getting installed FAR AND WIDE into our elections systems. These machines are very easy to hack and manipulate.

HOW DO YOU STOP THEM??

Attend your local BOARD OF ELECTIONS meetings AND CALL YOUR CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS both STATE and NATIONAL - tell them WE ARE NOT GOING TO USE THE MACHINES.

Also, the mandate is the machines are to be HAVA compliant - alot of the machines being put into place ARE NOT - there is information on HOW TO DECERTIFY the machines in the 2004 Election Results and Discussion Forum located here http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=203

Tell your representatives you WILL NOT CONTRIBUTE to their campaigns UNLESS THEY STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND STOP THE GOVT FROM FORCING THE VOTE EATING MACHINES DOWN OUR THROATS!

2. More you can do to SAVE OUR ELECTIONS!
PLEASE get involved NOW and put pressure on your county to get a machine that is auditable and recountable. IF a machine is chosen, the best choice is precinct-count optical scan, which has a Voter Verified Paper Ballot as an integral part of its system. The next best is a machine (touchscreen, etc) which has the ability to produce a Voter Verified Paper Record. In any system, the key words are VOTER-VERIFIED and PAPER. The worst thing your county could get is a computerized machine that never lets you see your vote on paper.

If you want more info, go to national sites www.VoteTrustUSA.org , www.VerifiedVoting.org , or www.VotersUnite.org . See the movie at www.votergate.tv

I AM SERIOUS -- this is very real.
Please -- wake up Dems, and help fight this, before it is too late.

3. And to be truly verifiable the machine needs to
give you a receipt just like an ATM, with a paper receipt to drop in a box to be counted if a recount is warranted. Some Boards of Elections are claiming the Diebold touchscreen has a paper trail. The paper trail is a 300 foot roll of tape that will spit out whatever results have been programmed into it (provided someone wanted to fix an election). There is no way to have a paper verification of your ballots, therefore no way to recount the vote. The error rate on alot of some computerized voting systems is wider than most elections.

Please take notice of this and do all you can to stop this ------- We owe it to all those who perished in New Orleans to take back our election system!

20. NOT a "receipt" though... call it a "Voter Verified Paper Ballot".
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 06:18 AM by demodonkey
When anyone calls it a "receipt" the other side uses this to claim the paper is likely to be taken out of the polls by the voter and then can be used for voter selling and other "voter fraud". PLEASE don't call it a "receipt".

Paper "trail" gives them the wiggle room they need to use the internal machine tapes (which only print whatever the machine 'thinks' is the vote, not necessarily the VOTER'S true choices!)

Please, please, PLEASE... demand a VOTER-VERIFIED PAPER BALLOT or at least a VOTER-VERIFIED PAPER RECORD (which must be then legally made the ballot of record in any discrepancy between the paper and the machine, or an audit, or a recount.)

The key words are "Voter-Verified" and "Paper".

Remember Andy Stephenson.

4. It's the seminal issue
All roads lead to it.

I don't know why (from my limited perspective) it's so
difficult to get RID of those effing machines!! What
is the problem??

6. The problem is we need more people to help fight them
more calls to our Congress, more attendence at the local Board meetings, more people fighting for our democracy!

8. Makes sense. I wonder how many Dems believe the election
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 10:06 PM by ailsagirl
was fixed? I talked to my rep (Lynn Woolsey) and said I
thought the election was stolen and she said, "Yes, but
we have no proof."

I do believe she thinks it was stolen as well.

But then, remember all the derision Conyers received when
he presented his report to Congress. He was dismissed
out-of-hand.

:(

11. There is evidence - hard evidence - more and more
gathered daily. Many people are working almost around the clock to prove what we suspected on Nov 2nd.

Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 10:28 PM by ailsagirl
but if the majority of Congress (repukes) keep dismissing it,
what can we do? Our only hope is if they start abandoning
ship. Wonder if that will ever happen??

17. Yes. In spite of this terrible, horrific disaster, I feel hope because
of the countries who have sent help-- even CHINA, who HATES us,
sent help. And you know they didn't do it for PR purposes because
they're NOT part of the UN and don't CARE what the rest of the
world thinks about them.

If China can send aid, I have hope.

I have hope that good will somehow prevail. I just wish it weren't
at such a horrifyingly high price.

10. EXACTLY in re: maybe thats why they don't care
So that is why we have to do everything in our power to stop this! Yes, we cannot compete monetarily with corporations, but they do rely on alot of our money in their campaigns......yes, I am saying that SOME of our Dem leadership may be IN ON the fraud, but not all.

I take the position that I will not contribute a penny to ANY democrat candidate that does NOT fight for paper ballots. There is strength in numbers, people......let's use it.

18. This information needs to be pinned somewhere in DU
Electronic voting, for DUMMIES.

This IS the big issue. And you did make it succinct enough for anyone to grasp and get working on.

Now I'd like to see a special place on DU where this information is made permanently available.

This is going to be my next obsession.

24. Is there an online database of county-by-county
status as far as machine choice?

If not, I will be happy to build one if someone can point me to sources of raw data.

I think it will be helpful if a web-based information source can be created, and soon.

PM me if anyone wants to discuss this further.
