I don't know what the latest numbers are but this is on Harry reid's website and was posted in May 2004 when gas was about $2.30/gallon in Nevada:

"It’s clearly documented that refiner margins have doubled and tripled. The oil companies weren’t content to make 25 cents on every gallon of gasoline. They now make 50 to 75 cents for every gallon of gasoline.
I have received hundreds of letters from Nevadans whose budgets are being stretched by these skyrocketing prices. Gasoline isn’t a luxury for families ... it is a necessity. Families have to put gas in their vehicles so they can drive to work, take their children to school, and go to the grocery store.
