Whoopsies!!! Ricky Santorum didn't mean we'd punish you poor folks!! |
|
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050907/ap_on_re_us/katrina_santorumPITTSBURGH - Sen. Rick Santorum (news, bio, voting record) said in a weekend interview that people who don't heed future evacuation warnings may need to be penalized, but said Tuesday he did not mean people who lack cars or other resources.
His remarks were sharply criticized by the campaign of Democrat Bob Casey Jr., who is seeking to unseat Santorum, the No. 3 Republican in the Senate.
"At face value (Santorum's comments) show an incredible amount of insensitivity to the Gulf Coast," said Jay Reiff, Casey's campaign manager. "What exactly does Senator Santorum mean by imposing penalties on people who often times had no transportation and no place to go?"
In a weekend interview with WTAE-TV about the victims of Hurricane Katrina, Santorum said: "You have people who don't heed those warnings and then put people at risk as a result of not heeding those warnings. There may be a need to look at tougher penalties on those who decide to ride it out and understand that there are consequences to not leaving<<<<more>>>>

What about no person over X income is allowed to vote? Those who follow people advocating assassination of world leaders should also not be allowed to vote.

13. If even half the black people would vote we would fix America |
|
For a group of people that have had to fight so hard for so little it is unimaginable to me that such a large percentage do not vote. I understand that many are convicted felons because of our "drug war" and are not allowed to vote but there are so many that just don't pay attention or vote. White people have a large amount that don't vote also but they don't have nearly so much at stake. How can we get it across to people how important voting truly is. I know everyone will say the voting machines won't allow a true vote anyway but I don't believe that is true. There are just too many local issues on the ballots that are important as well.

In case anyone hasn't seen it. --- Help build Camp Katrina on The Mall! Imagine 50,000 Katrina survivors camped on Bush's doorstep. In the seat of government and media. Demanding answers and change. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=4629758http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=2059147

6. Now, we need someone to ask ManDog this question... |
|
"How exactly do you figure out 'why' someone was still in the city? I suppose we should round up all the survivors and do, what - audits? Lie detector tests? Ask for doctor's excuses? Administer truth serum?"
