3. Yeah.
He was out in a boat with his personal photographer.

The boat sprung a leak at one point, but he did manage to rescue people.

12. not funny.....wait a minute.....yes it is
probly the only role he ever sucked in

they should outlaw movies like that....never saw one that was believable, even slightly

I work for one class a day with a child who has an autism-like syndrome, and it's beyond sad

any time I see an actor try to assume those sorts of roles, I get sick to my stomach

15. Let's not forget how ticked off Sean was for not getting an Oscar nod
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 12:23 AM by henslee
for that film. Yikes. I like Sean. But I wish he wasn't so actorly-intense. Wish he could laugh at himself a bit more. He really cracked me up in that Woody Allen movie Sweet low down or whatever it was called. "Hey, you want to go to the dump and shoot some rats?"

19. didn't know that about the Oscar....and was it Chris Rock who
gave it to him during the show last year?

he wasn't too amused then, either

he does seem to have a humor tumor, but, other than that, and his violent streak, he seems a pretty admirable person

but then, like our "pResident," nobody's perfect, yes?

New York -- Hollywood actor Sean Penn took matters into his own hands by launching a boat in a personal effort to rescue families stranded in New Orleans.

According to The New York Daily News, the Oscar-winning actor and political activist managed to reach several people who had been trapped in their homes since Hurricane Katrina hit on Monday.

Penn, who was accompanied by his personal photographer and a crew of helpers, brought the victims to dry land - and gave them cash as well.

Johnnie Brown, 73, a retired custodian, called his sister on a cell phone after being plucked from his flooded house. "Guess who come and got me out of the house? Sean Penn the actor. Them boys were really nice," he said.

Penn later accompanied a few of them to a hospital.

Asked what he was doing in the disaster zone, Penn said, "Whatever I can do to help."

"There's a lot of people out there," Penn said. "There's bodies everywhere. We could only do so many houses."

14. It's okay with me
If FEMA and chimp aren't doing their jobs, at least rich folk with a conscience (even John Travolta, for chrissake, flew his plane in with supplies) are trying to pick up a little of the slack. Just chew on this: Sean Penn's act was LESS of a PR photo op than the president of the United STates was.

17. I agree. The celebrities have the money and the means
to help and they are.

That's good and not bad.

16. Compare this act to what his constant critics are doing:
Running their mouths & blaming the NOLA dog-catcher.

18. "Blaming the NOLA dog-catcher . . . "
Gave me a sad chuckle.

Exactly right--that's what those worthless chumps are doing.

20. Saw short video of him on TV....walking in thigh deep water.
He looked like hell, but was totally absorbed in rescueing people.
My admiration for him went way up.

22. this is not acceptable.....

He told the Liverpool Daily Post: "I couldn't describe how bad the authorities were. Just little things like taking photographs of us, as we are standing on the roof waving for help, for their own little snapshot albums.

"At one point, there were a load of girls on the roof of the hotel saying 'Can you help us?' and the policemen said 'Show us what you've got' and made signs for them to lift their T-shirts. When the girls refused, they said 'Fine' and motored off down the road in their boat."

:grr:
