GOP Begins Damage Control

Washington Times 9-7-2005
-----SNIP

Republicans said they have received the message that there is frustration over the federal response.

"Have I got an earful? You betcha," said Sen. Norm Coleman, Minnesota Republican, who said he heard about it from voters at Minnesota's state fair this weekend.

But even as Republicans promised investigations, they made it clear that the first failure was at the state and local levels, where governments are charged with preparation and the first response to disasters.

I'm a former mayor," Mr. Coleman said. "The leadership starts at the local level. I didn't see the local mayor. I didn't hear from the mayor."

Who's this mayor he is talking about do you remember a mayor saying anything--nope--Republicans kept their fingers in their collective ears it seems like and never heard anyone....

1. Oh, now is not the time for the blame game
When the slime merchants gear up as they have to put blame on the locals we need to push back. As their message permeates to the sheeple .. and it already has, we all need to refute it and insist it's part of the blame game they are playing..

The local officials are supposed to handle the evacuation... it says so in the evacuation manual. The most common Freeper claim that the Feds can't be responsible.

I've looked into this and found the official evacuation plan for Southeast Louisiana on their state homeland security web site. Very interesting read...

It does indicate that the local authorities should use any transportation available to move residents in the mandatory evacuation phase.. Ahhh, The kernel of truth they use to build the lie. But further read and two bullet points later it indicates that the local governments will be unable to carry out the evacuation and will require outside assistance.

Now review the the letter Gov Blanco sent on Saturday the 27th requesting federal assistance and declaration of national emergency. The letter clearly identifies the need to assist state and local agencies with evacuation.

Obviously the assistance never came or there would have been evacuations from the Super Dome which was designated as a last resort shelter. The last resort shelters according the the evac plan are suppose to provide a staging point for further evacuations until conditions deteriorate.

All they have is spin, keep the facts in their face.

4. I didn't know it was a staging area.

8. Oh yea, Staging area, and there are many others...
The plan appears to have been followed very closely up until the handoff to FEMA and reliance on them to provide the assistance that was required to coordinate multi-state, Red Cross and military assetts - like the hospital ship, or Law and Order resources.

5. It is not a game. It is not even blame. It is evaluation.
There were actions of restraint that caused more death and misery. This includes not using the Bataan as it sat off the coast after following the hurricane to shore.

This "blame game" is a media creation and should not be used when speaking of the performance of all involved. What we really have is an evaluation of every parties performance. Heads need to roll on the federal level. That is of course in addition to throwing everyone in Congress out and WarCriminal himself for prior misdeeds and dismal performance in their jobs.

This "blame game" crap needs to go as it makes everything seem childish, which an honest evaluation is not.

6. Amen.
Accountability and Responsibility are required before we can trust this government again. This blame game phrase is their attempt to frame all criticism as beyond the pale and they are of course above it all.
