20,000 barrels of oil spilled from one of the refineries |
|
I'm watching the Early Show and the reporter is showing the oil sludge on the streets. Gross stuff. I knew there was oil in the water, but this is the first time I heard that it was 20,000 barrels.

1. Oh and that's only the beginning |
|
Oil, gas, and all kinds of other nasty chemicals. I'm willing to bet big bucks that there is going to be a huge uptick in cancers amongst those folks who stayed in New Orleans, along with the various emergency personell, and the people who are going to clean up the mess in NO.
The vast majority of gas stations in NO had above ground tanks, and many of them broke loose during the storm. Some of these tanks split open in the flood, spilling their contents. The flood also inundated the various chemical plants down there, washing out all kinds of nasty stuff. And sadly, the folks left there were had no choice but massive exposure to this chemical soup. Those poor people are going to start popping up with some strange diseases, and even stranger cancers.

and NOT being used to fight fires, search and rescue, medical assistance and all the other needs they're qualified to do. Let's hope nobody has a book of dry matches. http://www.sltrib.com/utah/ci_3004197

I turned the show on right as they were showing the sludge so I didn't catch where they said the reporter was.

If so, I hope everyone is safe. I can't imagine watching my hometown go through something like this.

My family (in-laws) are in Alexandria right now. There house didn't flood since we live "outside the bowl" (although still officially in New Orleans).
Thanks for your thoughts.

4. Is that the one that spilled into the Mississippi or another one? |
|
I read a few days ago that an oil storage tank dumped tens of thousands of gallons of crude near the mouth of the Mississippi river. I didn't hear that it had gone into the city, though, so I'm wondering if this is a new one.
