Time for a War On Photo-Ops.
I just read the little piece on the front page about how Bush dragged 50 firefighters around with him on his NO photo-op to make a nice inspiring background for the pictures.

If there were any justice, there would be some kind of statute that we as citizens can activate in a time of national emergency that makes it temporarily illegal for our public officials to attend any event whose purpose is primarily the generation of positive publicity. Then maybe we'd get something done.

Christ almighty,

2. If we could stop Bush's PR 'hard work'
do you think he would start to then actually do some work? It should be apparent even to freepers at this point, the guy is hopeless.

4. No of course HE wouldn't, but maybe the people standing around behind him
would. Or at least they wouldn't have to stop the rescue so he could pose.

3. We have leadership by illusion.
Without banners, backdrops and props, Bush cannot manitain the illusion of his presidency. He is, in fact, the ultimate prop.

5. Under Bush FEMA isn't designed to HELP...It's designed to CONTROL...
the scene of a disaster so that political fallout is minimized. And sometimes that means keeping help out.

Compare: Mississippi and Louisiana..

Mississippi: Great photo-ops, small body counts and no word of desperation.

Louisiana: Need I say more?

6. re: earlier faked photo-ops, a few links
From the Rapid Response Network:

There is story playing in European news media but not here which gives the full "behind-the-scenes" (literally) picture of our president's visit to the
Gulf Coast last week.

Apparently, not only were the food supply stations and even the levee repair scenes almost completely faked but real work was actually stopped while the president was in the area. Bush admonished us to not play politics with this tragedy, yet he is.

Shameful, disgusting and weak.

Statement by Senator Mary Landrieu:
http://landrieu.senate.gov/~landrieu/releases/05/2005903E12.html

"But perhaps the greatest disappointment stands at the breached 17th Street levee. Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe. Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a Presidential photo opportunity; and the desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment. The good and decent people of southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast -- black and white, rich and poor, young and old -- deserve far better from their national government."

11. Yep, I don't know how that could work with the security that
surrounds that empty suit. I do have dreams of protests with protesters carrying bushels of rotten tomatoes, fruit and eggs and just bombarding him and his crew every time they step into public. I would like to make him a prisoner in the White House so he can't go anywhere. I think Cindy Sheehan got a good start on that.
