Shouldn't they 'treat' that toxic water before they pump it back in the
lake. I mean, if it's so polluted and toxic, won't it cause even more damage by polluting the entire lake?

2. Diluting it is probably the best thing they can do
It's a shame but it's not gonna get cleaner evaporating.

3. No choice.
There is no way to treat it. The pumps simply pump water back into the lake.

If we want the city back, we have to run the risk of killing Lake Pontchartrain.

I want the city back.

4. I think the bushturd and his gang should filter the polluted sludge
they should drink it and piss into Lake Ponchartrain.

5. what about seepage into the water table?
Won't it contaminate all the surrounding soil? (forgive me if I sound ignorant?)

8. Probably.
It's going to happen. We have no choice but to create an environmental disaster.

14. That Would Happen No Matter What
There isn't a treatment center anywhere in the south big enough to treat that much dirty water, which probably has substantial salinity.

You'd have to have a treatment center like the one off I-55 south of Chicago for something like that, and even then the total residence time is probably at least 5 days of treatment. They've got to get that water out of there NOW!

The lake is VERY big and will absorb a great deal of the contaminants in the street water. It will, absolutely, dirty up the lake. It's impossible for it not to do so.

But, they just can't wait another 2 months to pump, wait, treat; pump, wait, treat; pump, wait, treat. . . .

6. People are living and walking in it now. How do you treat it?
You can't find the bodies and everything else in the water until the water recedes.

They don't really have a choice and it will be easier to treat in the lake.

Just get it out of the City. People are still trapped in there and dying.

7. And a lot of the Gulf Of Mexico too.
Bush don't care about that! The department of homeland security was too busy seeing what we were reading at the library, to fool with a damned hurricane.

11. Ugh...ANOTHER thought just hit
So if ANOTHER hurricane goes through the gulf, then up through the middle of the country, it's going to spread that garbage all over?

10. The lake has been polluted for years....as well as the river....
about every 3-5 years in fact, the river is diverted into the lake to alleviate potential flooding in New Orleans.

12. Why do you hate America with your Blame Game?
People died during World War II so that you could have the privilege of drinking rancid poison.

Traitor.

17. No, they need to pump it back into the lake to prevent further pollution
And then they can treat it there, in the lake. There are several new bacteria out there that do nothing but eat pollution, they would be a great place to start.
