Chimpy was briefed BEFORE the storm -- photograph
Pardon me if this has been posted before, but given the picture and caption found in the link below, how can chimpy possibly explain his inaction?

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/08/images/20050828-1_p082805pm-0101-515h.html

He was briefed on SUNDAY before the storm hit. Was he distracted by the bright colors? Or was he just waiting for a Dukes of Hazzard rerun?

7. This was the morning he had a press conf. CNN carried it
He said he'd be able to respond after the storm passed. Seemed quite unconcerned. Had two more engagements after that. Monday: Arizona, Tuesday: SanDiego, Wednesday: flies over NOLA...Friday: goes to MS and LA. Thumb twiddling bastard!

18. And at his appearance in San Diego
he was comparing Iraq to World War II!!! Had to catapult the propaganda.

I don't like much about CNN, but Cafferty had a great line when talking to Blitzer on that stupid Situation Room show.

He very sarcastically said; "by the way, where is the President?" "He was out in San Diego telling us Iraq was like World War II" "Maybe he should get back to Washington"

PRESIDENT DISCUSSES HURRICANE KATRINA, CONGRATULATES IRAQIS ON DRAFT CONSTITUTION

THE PRESIDENT: This morning I spoke with FEMA Undersecretary Mike Brown and emergency management teams not only at the federal level but at the state level about the -- Hurricane Katrina. I've also spoken to Governor Blanco of Louisiana, Governor Barbour of Mississippi, Governor Bush of Florida, and Governor Riley of Alabama. I want to thank all the folks at the federal level and the state level and the local level who have taken this storm seriously. I appreciate the efforts of the governors to prepare their citizenry for this upcoming storm.

Yesterday, I signed a disaster declaration for the state of Louisiana, and this morning I signed a disaster declaration for the state of Mississippi. These declarations will allow federal agencies to coordinate all disaster relief efforts with state and local officials. We will do everything in our power to help the people in the communities affected by this storm.

Hurricane Katrina is now designated a category five hurricane. We cannot stress enough the danger this hurricane poses to Gulf Coast communities. I urge all citizens to put their own safety and the safety of their families first by moving to safe ground. Please listen carefully to instructions provided by state and local officials.

On another matter, today Iraqi political leaders completed the process for drafting a permanent constitution. Their example is an inspiration to all who share the universal values of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. The negotiators and drafters of this document braved the intimidation of terrorists and they mourn the cowardly assassination of friends and colleagues involved in the process of drafting the constitution

16. It isn't the first time, here he is "on" the phone after tsunami
I don't see phone lines here either.

Caption reads, "President George W. Bush speaks with Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga during a phone call in Crawford, Texas, Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004."

22. I finally found him with a working phone
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 06:10 PM by Mabus
It appears that the four phones seen in both the Katrina and tsunami pictures are props which means those "compassionate phone calls" he's seen making are nothing more than staged photo-ops(!). This picture shows a teleconference with a working phone - notice there is a telephone cord and that it is a different type of phone altogether. The three of the other four phones are in the "usual" positions while the one with the Presidential Seal has been pushed to the side.

I think this is more evidence that the photos were staged. What do you all think?

...the US while he was on vacation in 2001 and he did nothing. Why should he do something this time?

Do you think this moran is capable of learning from his mistakes? Especially when he won't even own up to them.

14. Any links to news items about this? Hillary said this a.m. that *
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 01:20 PM by Feles Mala
signed an order on Saturday before it hit, essentially putting the federal gov in charge of the entire effort. Any links to AP or other news items about this from that date?

I heard of a hurricane specialist who was on that conference call explaining that this is the storm they've feared for years and the biggest threat is Lake Pontchartrain washing out the levies and flooding the city.

Then, on Wednesday, * tells the nation there was no way anyone could foresee "the levies getting breached."

Who is he trying to kid? How stupid does he think we are? Was he intentionally lying or is he just an idiot?

21. CNN from Monday, 8/29
New Orleans braces for monster hurricane: http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/08/28/hurricane.katrina/

In addition to reporting that Bush issued a disaster declaration, it also has this gem:

Federal Emergency Management Agency teams and other emergency teams were in place to move in as soon as the storm was over, FEMA Undersecretary Michael Brown said.

17. Thanks!!!
I knew I saw that picture and even commented on it before...

the person on the TV screen is Max Mayfield Director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami....

Bush was briefed by the best in the business....and ignored it...my guess is that he took this briefing as a photo op and paid little or no attention to what was actually being said....
