FREIGHTER CAUSED BREACH? BIG COVER UP? WSJ today
said it may have crashed into the levee wall during the hurricane. Whoever didn't secure it...holy moly.

I've been waiting all day for someone to post on this. It was buried in a mostly technical article in the Wall Street Journal. Can't believe our talking heads are not hitting on this

3. I don't buy it. Breached was drainage canal flood wall a type of levee but
not a river levee.

10. it was the canal
The original post mistakingly wrote "levee", but the article clearly documented the freighter breaching the industrial canal wall.

4. There are levees all around New Orleans
The only place to bring a lot of these boats during a major storm is into the river or port and hope for the best. You should see the Miami River when a hurricane comes. You can just about walk across the boats.

Sometime shit happens.

5. There was a story posted yesterday I think
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 06:27 PM by Maple
about a comment by a Freeper...that a barge had 'tried to turn around' in the canal and hit the wall.

7. The GOP are dying to get us into the blender of false stories &
theories ...that can then be denied.

Be aware of un-substantiated stories.

The issue is that Bush stood the troops down and made that decision - despite having all the tools of governance & intelligence on looting & such, for 5 days in a row.

Presidents can make things happen. This one decided not to and play along with inexperienced mayor.

That is the issue.

8. How does this explain the other...
failures of the levee. I am not prepared to just let this explain, and thus free, the chimp and the gang, after cutting FEMA funds, and placing idiots in charge.

9. good coverage
overall in the WSJ, which I read but curse at daily. Today's article about the freighter was very good - also the harrowing account of a survivor in the 9th ward.
But then you get just can't get past the editorial page which continues to inflame me (can the couple that does the wine column find another paper please so I can switch!)
The editorial stauchly defends the pigdog oil companies for jacking up the prices. Just beautiful.
