... and they asked why people are so focused on individual words instead of the sentiment behind them.

"Runt" being one of them. Especially if your from England.

4. no, it's worse
"bitch" is insulting. "rhymes with witch" is insulting and condescending.

If you think it's wrong to call someone a bitch, don't do it. If you are going to call someone a bitch, at least take responsibility for it.

33. Bad, dehumanizing choice of words, possibly resulting from racism
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 08:14 PM by jpgray
Would removing the word "refugee" from all broadcasts remove the racism in NO coverage? No. Those terms aren't inherently racist (refugee was coined to refer to Protestant white French dudes emigrating to England), but the way they are being used is indicative of possible racism. Are you saying the word "refugee" must be banned in all instances because a few use it in support of racist views? That's what we have on DU with regards to the 'b' word.

17. Nah.
The sentiment is still there. The communication is clear.

Just come out and use the word. It's gender neutral these days, so any claim that it's sexist is null and void in my book.

31. Apparently You Can Beat Around The Bush And Say Everything EXCEPT "Bitch".
... you can hint, rhyme, misspell, omit letters, etc etc... and that's okay. For some folks it's not the MEANING that offends but the WORD. It's not the intent but the five little letters b, i, t, c, h.

I don't understand.

26. Shaving Cream!
I have a sad story to tell you
It may hurt your feelings a bit
Last night when I walked into my bathroom
I stepped in a big pile of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave everyday and you`ll always look keen

I think I`ll break off with my girlfriend
Her antics are queer, I`ll admit
Each time I say, darling, I love you
She tells me that I`m full of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave everyday and you`ll always look keen

Our baby fell out of the window
You`d think that her head would be split
But good luck was with her that morning
She fell in a barrel of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave everyday and you`ll always look keen

An old lady died in a bathtub
She died from a terrible fit
In order to fulfill her wishes
She was buried in six feet of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave everyday and you`ll always look keen

When I was in France with the army
One day I looked into my kit
I thought I would find me a sandwich
But the darn thing was loaded with

Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave everyday and you`ll always look keen

And now, folks, my story is ended
I think it is time I should quit
If any of you feel offended
Stick your head in a barrel of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave everyday and you`ll always look keen

If you're going to call someone a bitch then have the guts to actually say the word.

If you want to be nice then don't say it at all.

41. I'm also curious about why people type G_d

Do they think that God would be pissed off if they typed "God" but does not mind them typing something ("G_d") which they know that everyone is going to read as "God"? Isn't that kind of almost the same as typeing "God"?
