...there was just the rumor of one I attemted to reply to...The thread was locked.I like many here have spent time both repairing and flying on these bad boys...My deal was Butts Army Airfield at Ft. Carson Colorado in '72 and '73...(704 maint bat 4th ID).They fail...In a 12 month tour we had 4 "major incidents" (read "charred corpses") and approximately 35 "inflight Incidents" (read "suckers successfully on the ground")This with a total flight complement of about 150 craft. Anyhow, the point is that even with the simple shit we flew in '72.the birds required 4 hours maintenance for each flight hour. For modern stuff I read 6-8.IF only 6 per hour of flight that means 7X25=175...any helicopter flown 25 hours a week (168hrs) is defacto a wreck waiting to happen... Read the reports...these boys are WAY past the edge...some WILL fall and when the smoke clears the pilots WILL be punished.Everytime you see a chopper fly this week you can assume the guy on the stick is holding his career cheap-I wish our command were this "reckless"...
