Conservative Compassion from the Yahoo boards
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 08:36 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
I was trying to explain to a Fundie why trying to say "God helps those that help themselves" regarding the poor people in NOLA is crap, since it ISN'T in the Bible when all that "help the poor" stuff IS in the Bible. Anyway, she went off into la la land as soon as I said "regardless of whether or not god exists, you are still a hypocrite--you can't use the bible for one purpose but conveniently not use it for another" because you know, I don't want to force my beliefs down everyone else's throat. And hey, you don't have to be a Christian to see that they are hypocrites. Anywho, I picked up this nice little message. I can't answer anymore because Yahoo keeps messing up.

"I would say that many of these people are worthless and a liability in our society. They do nothing fruitfull and a tree that has no fruit is usually removed. However, some of these people are good people who just got caught in the mess and are trying to work thru it all. I feel for them and hopefully they will use the goldmine thats fixing to come thier way and put it to good use.

The reality, most of these people are animals and wherever they go they will only make things worse for the community. they will continue to be jobless and live off wellfare and having more babies to increase monthly checks. not to mention keeping our prison system in check.

Reality bites and it doesnt matter if your a donkey or an elephant!"

1. I think they're all paid GOP telemarketers in Bangalore
They probably get a dime for every pro-GOP msg.

3. They do help themselves, more than anyone else in this country.
And they sure as hell helped themselves during the disaster.

4. I read an article about how people on welfare can't pull-it together
in a diaster like we just saw. Then I read one of the first-person accounts about how some of the people at the dome had guns and they were the leaders. They went out and got food and water when they could find it. They tried to keep things somewhat sane. The people in the dome thought they were being killed since no one told them what was going on. They were scared and I don't blame them. Try going without food and water for 3-6 days. Also, when the buses showed up they got the crowd lined up to board.

Constantly for the last week I have seen the assumption that all these people are poor and on welfare. They do nothing but watch TV all day as they get their welfare check. And they will riot for the smallest reason. This says a lot about America. We've come a long way on most things but not racism.

And as for that crappy welfare line about how they're worthless: welfare people have families, buy clothes, milk, food, support health services, support landowners by renting or the city and states by paying taxes on what homes they own. WHICH IS MORE THAN I CAN SAY FOR THE BUSH FAMILY AND THE CORPORATE WELFARE PEOPLE LIKE HALLIBURTON, CARLYLE GROUP, ETC.

Welfare is 1-2% of a state's expense. I would think that a country could spend that much to make sure people aren't starving to death.
