Gallup poll spin?

Gallup says on September 07, 2005

"the public seems on balance only mildly critical" of Katrina response

and also that

"Forty-two percent say Bush did a "bad" (18%) or "terrible" (24%) job"

There's a major diaster and 42% of country thinks you're doing bad or terrible on the recover efforts.

This is normally a time people would rally around their leader.
42% say he sucks!

How does that come out as mildly critical?

2. Gallup is..
... was and always will be a repug-spinning joke of a pollster. They have as much credibility as Bush** himself.

3. Ha! I see a trick I use when I want to minimize the impact of
a number - I spell it out.

<snip>
"Despite widespread criticism of the response by Bush and, separately, the federal government, to the problems caused by the hurricane, the public seems on balance only mildly critical.
Forty-two percent say Bush did a "bad" (18%) or "terrible" (24%) job, but 35% rate his response as either "great" (10%) or "good" (25%)."
<snip>

See how they wrote out 42% but showed the lesser % in numbers. The reader tends to only pick up the numbers and not the spelled out figures.

4. Olbermann did a good job of reporting the Gallup poll...
...put up a screenshot of *'s approval ratings right after 9/11 for balance. Back then his approval rating was 90%.

Oh, how the (mighty?) have fallen. It was a good reminder that a crisis that supposedly gets people to rally around their leader can sometimes bite * in the ass. 'Course I've never thought of him as a leader.

They probably haven't switched off the Soap Opera channel to realize that a place called New Orleans actually flooded...

The happy camper number is 35%.
