can someone here please tell me where all the evacuees are?
I keep hearing that evacuees are coming here. For four days we have been waiting. Our city has made wonderful arrangements for these people including homes, clothing, furniture, jobs, and people to help them find their families and be reunited. They are not here yet. No one knows what is going on. They are now saying we might not get them. Where are all of the evacuees? Where are they taking these people? Does anyone have a confirmed list of where these people are?

1. Some don't want to leave areas down south so it's easier to find family.

3. this is a question i've been putting off answering for myself
so i am glad you asked out loud. it gets alarming when you add in early reports of people not being told where they were been evacuated to... and isn't there something about a contaminated military base being used for shelter? creepy stuff, but these are our times.

4. If I recall the map shown on either CNN or MSNBC, the evacuees....
...are scattered throughout the following states:

*Alabama (north and central)
*Tennessee
*Arkansas
*Texas
*New Mexico
*Arizona
*California
*Georgia
*Florida
*South Carolina
*North Carolina
*Virginia
*Massachusetts
*New York
*Pennsylvania
*West Virginia
*Kentucky
*Utah

I believe Oregon and Washington are expecting evacuees as well.

8. Just draw a map of the entire USA.
I'd bet some have already been in more than one state. I'll bet further mistakes have put them in states not even listed. The word "diaspora" keeps coming up here on DU and elsewhere.

9. Add Colorado to your list.
I know we're not at capacity, but we've had a couple hundred arrive.

11. Guys--don't lose sight of this word: "grant"
The relocation has been privatized. You need a grant to apply. If you're not a red state, move to the back of the line. Guess what? There's money in hosting "refugees". But, please don't tell blue America this fact. They won't understand and will blow the whole good idea out of proportion. Just remember any key word like Fed.; Gov.; etc. means MONEY IN YOUR POCKET if you're a local RED community.

6. Where are you located?
Here in Houston the news reports keep saying that a lot of the evacuees don't want to leave Texas and go further out because their family members are either here, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin etc. They had to put the cruise ships on hold...not enough takers. They fear it would take longer to hook back up with their family. How sad.

7. I'm in Kentucky by the way
thought I should add that.
We do have evacuees here, but they all evacd before the storm an dmost have family here. Red cross is going to help them out as well as the evacs we were supposed to get...four days ago.

Lots of rumors spreading which I will not take part in. I'm just wanting to know who is making sure that these people are being taken care of and more sinister implications are not taking place.

12. We have some in NC in Charlotte, Greensboro, & Raleigh/Durham.
We have some people evacuated from hospitals on the Gulf here at Duke Hospital, I understand.

Here's one story:

"After their first full day in Raleigh, nearly 400 survivors of Hurricane Katrina are answering important questions to help get their lives back together.

A lot has been established at the relief center in a very short time. The Federal Emergency Management Agency set up phones for victims to file claims. The Red Cross is working to fly evacuees to other states where they may have family with which they can stay. Some workers even helped victims, who lost a loved one in the storm, file for survivor benefits.

Similar efforts were also underway in Charlotte, where more than 800 evacuees are seeking refuge, and Greensboro with 85 and more expected. In all, about 1,700 storm survivors are expected in North Carolina."
