Are N.O. Evacuees Being Taken Only to Areas Controlled by Repubs?
I noticed Chicago offered to take them and got turned down, but some are being delivered to Utah. The other destinations I'm aware of are all Repub stongholds.

Given the restrictions being put on the evacuees and on media access to them, it would make sense.

The level of control and secrecy sought by the Feds is making be very uneasy.

1. No, there are some going to Wisconsin, I know
However, since almost every state voted red in the last election, it's gonna look like they're going to republican controlled areas.

2. If that's true, it's probably for political and financial reasons.
They probably have republican companies all lined up with fat govt contracts to feed them.

4. Minnesota Public Radio said that those who wanted to stay in
the state would probably be settled in the Twin Cities, which are solidly blue.

6. Massachusetts spent 3 days getting ready for 2500 and now they are not
coming.

Many hours of work from the volunteers ----what a waste.

7. I'm gonna be crass and cynical for a moment
Nothing unusual. I'm frequently crass and cynical.

Of course it's tragic that the hurricane hit, people died and more people had to be evacuated. But (and I hope to God this comes across as intended), there may be a small silver lining here somewhere. Tens of thousands of New Orleans residents were evacuated. Many to very red areas. Houston, Utah, Arkansas, etc. New Orleans was a blue area in an otherwise red state. IOW, it's citizens were predominently Democrats. What's more, even New Orleans Republican voters have now been victims of a severe Bushco $%#*up. I imagine some will change their voting habits.

If these evacuees permanently relocate to where they've been taken and register to vote, then some solidly red areas are going to get a whole lot more blue.

Who's up for re-election next year in the Houston area?

and Dems have the edge in the state legislature).

We have 1800 Katrina survivors and expect more.

9. Philly got 50 so far. I think they are looking to move them farther
based on whether they want to relocate. Two, that were interviewed here stated they wanted to make a new start. Sounds like, they want to stay. Welcome all!

10. Well, I wouldn't imagine it's the kind of strategy you suggest,

but I did find out some had been taken to Utah in a conversation with my wingnut mo-mom on Saturday night - "because we have a reputation for being generous," she said. I let that slide. Then she said a bunch of other dumb things that I also let slide, but we eventually got into a huge argument when I said it would suck to be displaced and she told me not to use "gross words." I let her know (again) how I felt about her correcting me (again, at 45) and attempted to explain that they're just words and I refuse to restrain myself in that manner, and it just got bigger than life. Ugh. We were doing so well. Nothing my mother believes makes any sense.
