1. Um...this is an important story too
The fact that the senate and assembly both passed it is an historic victory; it wasn't manufactured to get people's attention diverted from Katrina.

2. I don't think it's as important as the murder of an American city.
If you do, I'd love to hear the rationale. I think our state assembly has really outdone themselves this time in terms of poor timing on a losing proposition.

4. Did I say that?
They did NOT "time" this in any way having anything to do with Katrina. This has been on the table long before this tragedy happened.

Losing proposition? That's funny...it JUST WON.

I have the ability to care about two important issues at once.

5. Yeah what's up with the "not as important as...." business, folks?
Lots of people can chew gum and walk at the same time.

6. Just wondering...
Do you think gays (of which I am proud to say I am one) will be blamed for being 'insensitive' for trying to get equal rights "too soon?" I heard that shit a lot here during the elections.

Like you, I too, can care about multiple things at once! :) Glad to see I'm in such good company. :toast:

7. Sen. Feinstein: "Too fast, too much, too soon."
She will be very disappointed in the California legislature.

17. Yes, how dare we be thinking about civil rights when civil rights are
being trampled.

Anyone who doesn't get that this is a civil rights issue, and not just some whim is not an ally. And anyone who thinks this is something that the CA legislature just decided to randomly vote on Wednesday isn't paying attention. "This isn't the right time for this," is the sort of thing the RW has been getting liberals to believe since 9/11...those whose civil rights aren't deemed as important should sit down and shut up because of this tragedy. Guess what? There are queers in New Orleans, too.

:toast:

8. Why not?
I think it is just as important. It was bigotry that was one of the causes of the failed disaster relief. Shouldn't the elimination of bigotry against another group of Americans be just as important? Can we as Americans not focus on more than one thing at a time? Should the legislative process just shut down? I think it should continue to provide for ALL Americans.

...I have no problem whatsoever with Gays getting hitched; but then I'll be invited to even more weddings.

Let's legalize Gay marriage, but outlaw Gay receptions.

16. On Topic...
...Bush just can't wait to get his agenda back on track -- rather than take responsibility for his part in this Godawful mess.

Did you know that Cheney is poised to make his first visit to area? Wow! The Fed really has taken this seriously.
